knightwriter
I'm thinking of creating a pulp fiction setting that has some of the feel of Call of Chuthulu and Brian Lumley's vampire books, set in England of the 30's, 40's, or maybe the late fifties early sixties. I'm at a bit of a loss on where to start researching this idea. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Steve Long
Re: Looking for pulp information Well, depending on what sort of detail you want, and how much, I'd suggest the following sources (which all apply to the Twenties or Thirties, not to later periods): Baedeker's, Cook's, Muirhead's, and other travel guides describing England of the period. Often include numerous maps of important areas. There were various other travel guides to all areas of the UK published by a variety of sources -- go on eBay and search for things like "map 1936" or "travel guide 1930" and you'll pull up lots of them, often for reasonable prices. Norton, Graham. London Before The Blitz 1906-40. A book of photographs of Pulp-era London, plus some text. Overy, Richard. The Twilight Years: The Paradox Of Britain Between The Wars. A sociopolitical history of intra-war Britain. Wilson, A.N. After The Victorians: The Decline Of Britain In The World. A “colorful, panoramic” history of Britain from 1901 to the early Fifties.
