Follow up: Killing Attacks vs AVAD's

psyber624

Question

Thanks for the response Steve, but the main question was regarding killing attacks vs MD (if the AVAD is set to MD, NOT rMD). Does Base MD affect the BODY of the killing attack? (assuming the AVAD is bought with Does Body). The same thing as if it was applied to non-resistant FD, PwD, etc... IE Do Killing attacks automatically always only get resisted by resistant defenses (like they do vs PD/ED) or do you have to buy the AVAD to apply to rMD (rFD, rPwD, etc) in order for it to ignore non-resistant defenses?

To make sure things are really clear, if I buy the following power:

3d6 RKA (45 pts), AVAD (MD, +1), Does Body (+1): 135 AP/RC

and attack someone with 20 MD, 0 rMD, will the BODY of the attack be resisted by the 20 MD?

OK, I’m going to restate your question just to make sure we’re both on the same page, and so that everyone following along at home will know what we’re talking about.

Q: If a character buys an AVAD Killing Attack and defines the defense as a non-Resistant exotic defense (such as regular Mental Defense or regular Power Defense), does a target’s non-Resistant exotic defense apply to reduce the BODY damage of the attack, or just the STUN?

For example, suppose a character has an RKA 2d6, AVAD (Power Defense). If the target has Power Defense (10 points), do those 10 points of Power Defense reduce the BODY and STUN of the RKA, or just the STUN?

A: If a non-Resistant exotic defense is defined as the defense for an AVAD Killing Attack, that defense applies to reduce both the BODY and the STUN of the attack. In the example given, the 10 points of Power Defense reduce both the BODY and STUN done by the RKA 2d6.

Some GMs in some campaigns where things like Killing Attacks versus non-Resistant exotic defenses are common may wish to change this rule to make such attacks consistent with regular Killing Attacks and Normal/Resistant defenses.
