Granting Damage Shield

lifo

Question

As per 6E1 321, to build a Damage Shield you need to buy an attack power with AoE personal surface and No Range limitation, and this shield is personal of the power owner.

But usually a No Range attack power is also a power you can use touching the target. So, a DS built by the book would also be a DS you can grant to another character or spread over a surface, unless I limit it with Self Only or the like.

Am I missing something or there's a contradiction here?

Re: Granting Damage Shield

There's no contradiction here. You're misinterpreting what a No Range power is. A No Range power doesn't let you "grant" a power to someone else; that requires various forms of Usable On Others. A No Range power lets one character affect another character at touch distance (typically with an attack). In the case of a Damage Shield, the Surface affected is the character -- and if he touches someone (or to put it another way, if someone is made to touch his Surface), that person is affected by the attack. It doesn't "spread" to that target, the target's simply affected.
