Effect of Casual Strength Roll on Grabs

Opale

Question

Hello Steve,

I have a doubt about the Casual Strength Roll effect that is allowed to do after been Grabbed.

If your foe Grabs you and you succeed in the STR contest as a defender, does that mean that you are immune from your foe Touch Powers as he managed only to touch you and not grab you (for example a Damage Shield).

My example turns around the Rogue (Marvel TM) character that sometimes jumped on foes to kiss them. Using the HERO System, it means she would Grab a target and attempt a "kiss attack". But What if the foe she attacks frees himself using Casual Strength ?

Does that means that her power didn't work or did it ?

Regards and tia

Re: Effect of Casual Strength Roll on Grabs

Assuming that a power that requires an attacker to touch his opponent is built with the "Must Grab Target (-1/2)" Limitation (or some variation on it), then if the target breaks out of the Grab with the immediate Casual STR roll the attack fails -- the attacker hasn't really established the sort of Grab necessary to activate the power. If the power's not built with that Limitation, it's up to the GM to decide what happens.
