Abort to Defense vs. Haymaker

TheRealDeal

Question

Say I take a Phase on Segment 12, and therefore cannot Abort during this Segment. A foe does a Haymaker on me and I would like to Abort to a defense but cannot since I acted this Segment. Then on Phase 1 in the next Turn his Haymaker Resolves. Can I now Abort before he makes it since it is now Segment 1? Or did I have to Abort when he first declared the Haymaker?

Y'™know, that'™s a good question, a definite candidate for the "œwhy hasn'™t anyone asked this before now?" file.

If a character has already taken his Phase in a Segment in which an attacker begins a Haymaker against him, but could Abort in the next Segment before the Haymaker takes effect, he'™s free to do so. The fact that he wasn'™t able to Abort when the Haymaker began doesn'™t prevent him from Aborting in the later Segment.
