  1. Re: SPD inflation obesrvation & solution

I've always thought of SPD as being genre specific as to what are the benchmarks are and definitely tied to the characters' combat ability. In a standard Superhero game, the characters are comic book/graphic novel Superheroes they are by definition above and beyond what normal (including athletic and Olympic caliber) humans are capable of. Batman is not an ordinary human nor is he equal to an Olympic athlete, he is superior. The only real human being known who had nearly the combat training he has had and was as much of a natural athlete was Bruce Lee, himself a legend and known for displaying abilities far beyond those of any average martial artist. Batman a SPD 7? I can see it.

In a standard Heroic level game, the characters are individuals who are exceptional but are not as so far above what is average as are Superheroes. Many of these characters have some combat training and/or combat experience in their backgrounds which gives them their enhanced combat reaction speeds.. Some classic examples would be Zorro, Robin Hood, Dirty Harry, Zena, etc.

These folks tend to be around SPD 3-4.

As player or GM I haven't had many problems with player characters wanting to raise their SPD unless they are feeling consistently ineffective in combat. That seems to be the most often reason for SPD inflation.

Of course all of the above is IMHO

  2. Re: Modeling, er, "sexual prowess"

    Three things People

One, I have nothing new to contribute to this topic that hasn't already been covered completely at length.

Two, this entire conversation has provide me with the best laugh I've had in a long time. Don't misunderstand me I do understand and appreciate how serious the topic can be and often is.

    Three, fade to black

    Thank you all.

  3. Re: Solara

Hmm... I seem to recall that there was this anime with a very similar premise except that the costume was technological and designed originally for a man but was first activated by his little sister and so....

I can't recall the name for the life of me at the moment....

  4. Re: Teen Champion Cover!

As a very picky consumer and supporter of DOJ I have mixed feelings about the artwork of some of the recent product covers.

I understand the need to save money and focus on the meat and potatoes aspect of selling the books. However, I know that presentation is often 90% if not more. Champions is based on a visual genre, any product that based on that genre should have a similar look and feel.

I was plesantly suprrized by the Teen Champions cover, I have always like Mr. Nakagawa's artwork and was wondering why he didn't get a cover before.

And for the record, I would tend to take the artist's name for the character on the cover. She is Mittens. IMHO:)

  5. Re: Character for Review: Pinky

    Ren,

I have to say that this is one of the coolest uses for the Hero System and HM that I have ever seen. I love the entire concept from beginning to end..

This is the the kinda thing that keeps me proud of the folks in the Hero Community.

  6. Teen Champions and Anime?

Well we're talking about teenagers with powers and abiliites beyond those of mortal men, yes? Anime is full of such characters.

Has anyone here seen Sailor Moon? Yes, I said Sailor Moon, wherein the main character starts her superpowered career in Junior High School.

Akira had a teenager discover he had immense psychic power and how his life as a downtrodden child and teenager affected what he did with his powers.

Then there's Tenshi from the OVAs, Movies, and TV series who also went to high school.

Duel which was released recently, had much of its plot centered around the main character's dealing with being a Mecha Pilot and going to high school.

Indestructible Campus Guardess where the students and teachers have superpowers.

And there are more than a few more...

Often, when a GM asks his players to create characters for a new campaign, they have to go through endless revisions to get the right "feel".

This problem can come from misunderstandings as to the "Age" or genre of the campaign.

    So, I had an idea.

A "Package Deal" for each Genre!

    KA.

Not a bad idea but where's the CVK, most classic 4 color heroes have it. ;)

  8. Empress

Let me be another of the millions (and millions) of people who are in awe of Storn's talent.

And thanks yet again to Enforcer84 for sharing the picture in context with the character sheet. Now, would you happen to have Empress' .hdc file lying around somewhere that you might be willing to share...?

  9. Whew,

I too was beginning to wonder if RS had been dropped in favor of other projects. It is nice to know that it is only on the back burner not completely off of the stove.

Now, if someone could give us an approximate print date at least. Just wishful thinking, I understand that all you all folks are pretty busy. :)

  10. Okay Steve, You Asked:

How about cyberware and other cybernetic gear?

Or some of those gadgets from the Saturday Morning Superheroes? (No, not the MMPR. Although for the next Vehicles book...) I mean those of the 60's 70's and 80's. Like Space Ghost's PowerBands, etc.

Or some of the vide variety of gear in Anime? Captain Harlock's sword/blaster, Nagisa Kano's braclet from Iczer One (combination defensive sheld and defensive weapon ), various wepons from Ninja Team Gatchaman/G-Force/BoTP/ER,

    --Just my two cents.

Actually most if not all Kinkos should have an available scanner on both their PC and MAC rental computers. Take it from a former Kinko's employee.

    :D

  12. Hey Storn !

I am just another of your many fans and I wanted to let you know how much I continue to enjoy the few pieces of artwork that you share with us here.

Even as great as your work is, its clear to see that it continues to improve.

I really like the updated Gunmetal Silk and Vector too.

  13. I have a question about Entangle barriers.

I understand the the rules on page 109 about Entangle creating a barrier in one hex. But what happens to any character that happens to be standing in that hex?

I have been assuming that you can target the hex to create your Entnagle barrier. Assuming that this is corrent, what happens to someone who happens to be standing in that hex if the Entangle can cover all sides of that hex?

Logically, they would be trapped within that hex given that they would have enough power to cover all sides and the top as well.

However, that would seem to in effect trap them within the entangle and require them to attack it as if they had been the target of the entangle all along.

In effect, one could target the hex (DCV3+ range) and entrap someone in their Entangle without rolling against said character's DCV.
