1. Re: CO Returnee Question Thread

I have a new question. How much of this is canon? There's a guy who (among other things seems to think he's a real life technomancer) didn't even know there was more than one edition of Champions as a tabletop game, but keeps trying to shove this down people's throats as 'canon'.

EDIT: I should be specific. The fellow claims his character is 'undetectable as a World of Darkness werewolf' but walks around kneading steel into nothing with his bare hands, and uses this document as a reason to piss in the Wheaties of people who are still wearing their 'Champions 132' noob guild tags. (I'm not naming names, but if you're on these forums I suggest remembering Wheaton's Law.)

  2. Re: CO Returnee Question Thread

Okay, I know Alerts set everyone to level 30, but is there an ideal level to start them? Buddies and I tried to do Red Winter (we're all 12ish) and got our rears handed to us, despite the fact that we've effectively gamed together as a unit for several months in other games.

  3. Re: CO Returnee Question Thread

New question: I cannot seem to form a supergroup. The people I'm trying to form it with are all people with long-existing, gold accounts, but I keep getting an error stating that new accounts cannot create, help create, or send invites for a supergroup.

Forums aren't much help here, either. Known bug? If so, what's the fix?

  4. Re: CO Returnee Question Thread

I have no clue, but one of the people at the gathering yesterday was asking about ways to make faces look a little more natural. Here's a thread from the official forums where someone was trying to do that.

That was me as K'zzz'kk, and thank you for the link. Unfortunately the process wasn't defined, and that's what I'm looking for: 'this works and here is why'. I'll trawl (not troll) youtube.

  5. Re: "Neat" Pictures

For anyone who thought, 'the first chick in that costume was way hotter!' I agree; you're right. She's about 3 inches taller than me and 18 years younger, and is generally radiant and lovely. :D It may become her costume rather than mine - we're discussing it. She was certainly a big hit at the Greenwich Village Halloween parade!

PS hon, they're sclera, not iris, contacts. And no, they're not real, I am not a demon from "Supernatural". :D

Here's a decent shot of my wife's original costume for the original gig. And to answer the question- No, they're not real.

She's had those full black iris contacts for a long time.

    What...? :sneaky:

  6. Re: "Neat" Pictures

TYVM! It's actually my 'oh crud' date=' I need a costume like NOW!' costume. The regular costume (with earcones on the headwraps) is a pretty standard Jedi-robes thing. I'm sure Celt will post pics once the upcoming photoshoot is finished. [/quote']

And now, for a little topic necromancy! Here is the updated costume and prosthetic, lightsaber effects added to the stunt weapon. Pic taken at the end of the day, so my makeup was pretty sweaty and streaky. Much shii-cho (basic lightsaber form) was taught to many many small children. Eager little things.

    PS - Nevermiiiiiind.

    Welcome!

Thanks, but I've been around for some time. :P

Congrats on the great costume. And I never knew that there were costumers doing the Kel Dor.

As for the Kel Dor, I only know of one other person who has such a costume, and his is Plo Koon. His images are all at Padawan's Guide under the Making Latex Prosthetics and Masks section - http://www.padawansguide.com/latex.shtml - some pretty neat photos there, so as to stay on topic!

My wife is a hawt twi'lek Jedi. :D

I'm the wife, by the way. *waves* Coming later this year or early next year will be the Sha Koon (Plo Koon's neice from some of the Expanded Universe comics) costume, but the twi'lek is going to be my main. It's not fun to fight in a full mask!

  9. Re: The November Nine

Eightfold Path' date=' would you like to share some info about the character?[/quote']

Always! The problem is getting me to shush. A bit of info on the character was posted at http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75782 - I've pasted it below, with slight rearrangement so the image is at the end on account of it's freakin' huge.

That's a very generous offer and given your talent I hope my character idea intrigues you.

Black Brume: She is the avatar of a ghost ship - I'm presently calling her the avatar of the Elizabeth Dane because I don't know of any canon ghost ships (help here is welcome) - falling into the category of beneficial rather than omen-of-doom like the Flying Dutchman. These are the ghost ships from real life lore that appear in time to take sorrowful people contemplating suicide-by-drowning to fabulous cruise-ship parties and cheer them back into living; these are the ghost ships that patrol the seas to save people from drowning when all else is lost. Most appear in the vicinity of the equator, which makes "Ellie Dane" something of an anomaly as she appears as far north as Canada.

"Ellie Dane" is a young ghost ship and takes liberties in her interpretation of 'saving the drowning', to a point where a fraction of herself patrols the land, using her not insignificant powers to do right. Perhaps in time, she can learn to have an identity beyond that of savior and avenger.

I can't find a hairstyle that really suits her, it should be that long, over the shoulder and down to the waist, swept all away from the face style so many comic book females sport. I'm hoping to unlock something eventually.

PS: She's more Kaylee than Zoe, and way way more Serenity than Millennium Falcon.

  10. Re: Arrgggghhh!!!!!!

Then your best bet is to get Cryptic's help with it. It's possible they'll put your trial account into stasis for the time being - good PR never hurts anyone, right?

But if you want technical assistance, I will need for you to answer the questions I've posted.

  11. Re: Arrgggghhh!!!!!!

It sounds very frustrating, and it sounds like you're a computer user with a clue, so let's start with your system and specs. I'm assuming you're not on a mac, but what's your OS? What's your processor (the game loves dual-core), what's your graphics card, how much RAM - blah blah blah.

Have you gone into options (you can access that at log in) and reduced all your graphics settings to the lowest possible?

And, failing all else, have you contacted Cryptic's own tech support for the game?

I realize you've said the computer is unlikely to get an upgrade, which is probably your best solution (RAM is a cheap upgrade, new graphics card less so), so let me ask you what you know you can safely play on it?

  13. Re: Do you play CO as an MMO?

I'm a funny chap who looks at things through an RP lens' date=' and repeating the same instance over and over again tends to wreck supension of disbelief and the integrity of the story ("wow, the Scarlet Monastery replaced its losses fast!").[/quote']

Actually this is explained in the Bronze Dragonflight/Caverns of Time storylines - the Bronzes are the custodians of the'Aspect' of Time. Their enemies, the Infinite Dragonflight, are constantly shuffling and re-shuffling the timestream and the Bronzes end up sending PCs (with or without knowledge and consent) all around to 'fix' the mistakes. Various NPCs make comments about this, ranging from vague to pointed, including suggestions that the Bronzes do routine mindwipes of the population whenever they 'fix' things.*

I digress. The overall point you make rings true for me (in WoW), though in my case I am lucky to have run into fewer of the power-leveled and unskilled players who don't know the Onyxia fight from a paella. Maybe it's because I favor Horde? ;D (When you have a lower population density, you also have a lower total number of idiots - though I am sure the actual ratio remains the same across the board.)

If your concern is that it is graceless to refuse someone their every whim, empowering people by causing them stand on their own two feet in our silly little MMOs can lead to them empowering themselves in real life. Giving someone greater control of his own destiny is also a form of granting someone grace. It can be as much of a gift as the kind that comes wrapped in a pretty bow.

Bringing it back to Champions Online as an MMO: So far, I've not had anyone beg my higher level character for lair runs or resources, and I am cautiously optimistic that this will continue to be the rule rather than exception. People ask me questions with the assumption that as a higher level character, I have experienced certain things they haven't. It's a fair assumption and is even a little respectful, suggesting that my opinion has merit. The only expectations my SG-mates seem to have of me are for RP and socializing, with grouping up used as a good reason to spark RP and socializing. Maybe part of it is that CO is innately heroic, and heroes don't beg for themselves. Heroes make the extra effort for others. Heroes make the extra effort for themselves, too, even when nobody else is watching, because they are heroes; it is the right thing to do.

    -----

    * Before anyone says, "8, you spend WAY too much time playing WoW" - yes I do - "if you know all this!", I had to learn for RP reasons. My Forsaken priestess is a follower of the Bronze Dragonflight. Every spell she casts is the result of manipulating the flow of time, and she hopes to eventually use that magic to help cure her people of the Plague.

  14. Re: Do you play CO as an MMO?

Funny, for me, it's the roleplaying and other social experiences in an MMO that make it an MMO instead of a fancy console game. One doesn't have to be in an SG/guild to have a social life in the game.

I definitely play CO as an MMO, though I do solo many missions. I also hang out with my RP buddies, chat in the various private channels, and RP as much as fight bad guys.

  15. Re: List Your CO Nemesises!

Spooklight, who is one of about eleventy-billion (a real number, I am assured by math-y people) Deadpool clones, has Will the Smith as his first nemesis. Will the Smith, like Spooklight, is a fairly obscure reference to the willow-the-wisp, and is essentially Slayback - undead cyborg, gadgeteer with munitions robots. Their backstory is that Billy Smith was seriously injured during a team run - clinical death occurred - and Spooklight injected his teammate with some of his own regenerative blood. Unfortunately, Spook's not a doctor and injected it into the heart only, rather than the brain. As Billy regenerated, not only did his countenance change to something zombie-like, his brain chemistry reasserted itself with a dollop of crazy. He blames Spook for his present situation, rather than thanks him for another chance at life, which is also in keeping with the Will the Smith legend: A blacksmith lived a terrible life but convinced Heaven to give him a second chance. Unfortunately, he stayed evil the second time around and earned himself the doom of wandering hill and dale with only a red-hot smithing tool to warm him and light his way.

K'zzz'kk has a first nemesis of a Qularr bounty-hunter type called Ixik, or at least that's how it'd appear to humans. I went with Maniac because Ixik is aware that humans react in a more panicked way to certain behaviors, and wants to reduce K'zzz'k's chances of having allies.

  16. Re: Official Hero Boards Super Team And Chat Channel!

I just saw total strangers in Vent, one of whom told me someone on "Steam" (whatever that is) gave him this ventrilo information. He was under the impression that we were a large, open 'meet and greet' vent server.

Please refrain from handing out the vent info to people who aren't in CO.

I am posting this to all groups who use the vent server.
