  1. Re: Character ability guidelines table Thanks for the reply. My players, one in particular, is very particular about character concept. She won't want her telepath to be able to resist gun shots unless it is part of a superpower and it will be a stretc to get her to want her PD or ED at a Skilled level of 6 let alone the reccomended 12, hah. What I am now going to do is read up on Equipment rules as if it was a Heroc campaign and see how easy it is to integrate the two as opposed to buying everything as powers...maybe that will work nice. Put her in a reimagined suit of sexy Kevlar or something and make her pay for it with cash as opposed to they typical tights for supers. Thanks again and if anyone has any suggestions on the direction I am taking let me know.
  2. I had one other question regarding a Low powered Superhero with power enhanced stats that uses weapons and martial arts. I wanted to have him use 2 short swords and make use of martial arts and super speed. I was having some minor confusion on how weapons, martial arts and powers interact in a Superheroic campaign. I get that equipment is bought as powers. I want to have his enhanced speed make his normal Hand to hand attacks do more damage so I buy Hand-to-Hand Attack. When I buy this does his Hand-to-Hand attack damage add to his STR? For instance, his STR is 20 and does 4d6, if I buy the it at 4d6 for 16 points does he do 8d6 when he hits someone? I assumed it did but when I used the character designer it didn't add the 2 together even though it does with a Killing Attack - Hand-to-Hand. Do I have to also buy a Killing attack - Hand-to-Hand in order for him to use short swords? I guess what I am asking is what happens if a superhero who has powers not related to a specific weapon picks up a knife and stabs someone? Is there a way I can include some Heroic campaign equipment rules to account for this instead of buying powers? Is this already in the books somewhere and I am missing it? A short sword does 1d6 Killing damage which is a DC of 2. Can I just say when this particular character picks up a short he does 2DC (short sword) + 4DC (STR) + 4DC (speed boosted power bought as Hand-to-Hand Attack) = 10DC (total 3d6+1 Killing Attack - Hand-to-Hand damage)? If yes would ou put restrictions on it?
  3. Hello Steve. I just got the 6th Edition of the Hero System and am very excited to play it. I told my group I didn't want to DM DnD games because making a world is so restrictive and I have no fun so they are up for a change with me. This version seems less intimidating then the 5th Edition so I am, again, excited to try it out. I have a few questions though. I get that I can do whatever I want with your system, in fact, that is why I got it. However, it is probably the most scary thing about it, hah, I never had so much flexibility as a GM. I am going to start a Superheroic, Low end campaign because I want to have the characters able to be threatened by normal humans and not just supervillains. My first question is about balance. So here goes. On page 35 of Vol. 1 you have these suggestions for balance. Char 10-30 SPD 3-8 CV 6-11 DC 6-12 Active Points 40-75 Skill Points 25-80 Skill Roll 8-14- Def/rDef 12-15/6-10 I understand them, thanks for putting this in there. Since most of the maximums match closely the Legendary category in the Characteristics Comparison Table on page 58 I figured it would be well balanced to just use those as the campaign maximums. It is the minimums I am concerned about. Will I be ok setting them to the high end of the Average category or will my players be in danger of getting "one-shotted" because of a mundane PD or ED of 4? Is the suggestion of Def/rDef 12-15/6-10 for more of a tankish character or for everyone? The other question was about the DC suggestion of 6-12. My players will love maneuvers and I anticipate them using them a great deal, regular and martial. Is the 6-12 scale including things like that so I would be better off setting the max. DC between 6 and 8 and assume they will up the damage by pushing or move through martial type actions? Thanks for your time.
