Hello Steve. I just got the 6th Edition of the Hero System and am very excited to play it. I told my group I didn't want to DM DnD games because making a world is so restrictive and I have no fun so they are up for a change with me. This version seems less intimidating then the 5th Edition so I am, again, excited to try it out.
I have a few questions though. I get that I can do whatever I want with your system, in fact, that is why I got it. However, it is probably the most scary thing about it, hah, I never had so much flexibility as a GM.
I am going to start a Superheroic, Low end campaign because I want to have the characters able to be threatened by normal humans and not just supervillains. My first question is about balance. So here goes. On page 35 of Vol. 1 you have these suggestions for balance.
Char 10-30
SPD 3-8
CV 6-11
DC 6-12
Active Points 40-75
Skill Points 25-80
Skill Roll 8-14-
Def/rDef 12-15/6-10
I understand them, thanks for putting this in there. Since most of the maximums match closely the Legendary category in the Characteristics Comparison Table on page 58 I figured it would be well balanced to just use those as the campaign maximums.
It is the minimums I am concerned about. Will I be ok setting them to the high end of the Average category or will my players be in danger of getting "one-shotted" because of a mundane PD or ED of 4? Is the suggestion of Def/rDef 12-15/6-10 for more of a tankish character or for everyone?
The other question was about the DC suggestion of 6-12. My players will love maneuvers and I anticipate them using them a great deal, regular and martial. Is the 6-12 scale including things like that so I would be better off setting the max. DC between 6 and 8 and assume they will up the damage by pushing or move through martial type actions?
Thanks for your time.
