  1. I see it as insulting in these ways: 1) Humans have no individuality to speak of - we're "printed" like books or money. Our personalities are foreordained and not very interesting. 2) Humans are worth less than flesh, which the demon apparently feels (or at least suggests, to insult) could be put to better use. 3) By deliberate comparison to "not worth the paper it's printed on", he compares humans to either trashy novels or filthy lucre made worthless by inflation. Either way, I don't like it. Oh, and possibly: 4) He may be implying that he can "read us like a book", too. And, given 1) and 3), not a very interesting book at that. *grin* That reminds me of another villainous insult, from an SF TV show. The ultrapowerful psionic villain says contemptuously, "I can read you like a book... a book with short words and lots of pictures!" (His tone definitely suggested that that was the only sort of book the hero was likely to be able to read. The Shadow
  2. Forgot this one. It's from a movie, the title of which I've unfortunately forgotten. A demon speaks - tired of trying blandishment and finally annoyed: "HUMANS! You're not worth the flesh you're printed on!" I love it, because it's insulting at least three different ways. The Shadow
  3. Many thanks to all of you for your help. Inquisitor does sound like a great candidate, Lord Liadan, thanks. I recall him vaguely; he didn't play that role in the Phantom's original incarnation, but this will be a different campaign anyway. The Shadow
  4. OK, this wasn't a villain quote to start with, but it could easily be turned into one... and I've always loved it. Slight background: A violent Wolverine-type character made of shadow called Erebus, has a girlfriend named Jessica who's just been mentally attacked while driving a speeding car by a psycho mentalist. Erebus has been known to say (when enraged) "I'll hand him his SPINE!" "Erebus? My birthday's coming up... Could you get something for me? I want his spine. BRONZED!" Two more Erebus quotes (the player had a gift): "Oops. He broke." (With a not-so-innocent smirk.) "Gee, I'm sorry. I seem to have forgotten my CPR card!" (Government agent wanted to revive heavily-abused and dying villain for questioning.) Other villain quotes: "Now you die, in fear and ignorance. Such is the fate of the worm called man!" (To which the hero responded, "You have GOT to be kidding." "Humans are little more than vicious animals. Some need to be put down, others simply need to be taught their place - cringing at the feet of their betters." (Later: "No, I've never believed in mutilation or torture. ... The SPCA wouldn't approve.") "If blood were green, then green would be my favorite color." (Conrad Bland, from Walpurgis III by Mike Resnick.) "No, I've never made a pact with Satan. I need no underlings." (Conrad Bland again.) The Shadow
  5. I would be much obliged if people would give me a hand with a bit of data from the old "Mind Games" supplement. My problem is this. I have been wanting to revive (and slightly revise) one of my very earliest Champions characters from way back in the day, a mentalist called The Phantom. (He was my second character, "The Shadow" was the first. The GM helped give me ideas for character background out of Mind Games, a supplement I've never owned. Basically, he was an escaped "recruit" from P.S.I. (P.S.I. ended up being the group's primary enemy in our first several adventures.) The trouble is that my memory of the details has decayed to the point of near-nothingness, and I want to write a bang-up character background. I recall that he was primarily "handled" after being kidnapped from his family by a Counsellor Smart or Dark or something like that. Can somebody give me an idea of what his powers were? Could he be described as a psychic surgeon, capable of reworking or suppressing someone's memories? (Mental Transform, basically?) If not, who else in P.S.I. could do something like that? Also, who in the group has suitable powers for punishing recalcitrant teenage "recruits" - a nasty mental blast or something of that sort? Basically a "bad cop" against Counsellor Whoever's "good cop". I recall a real creep named Psimon, but don't remember if he had the powers to do it. (I DO remember Torment - he and the Phantom had an interesting scene - and I don't want something THAT bad, thanks. Besides, if I recall, the Phantom felt sorry for Torment more than anything else, and I need a person that he can safely love to hate.) Finally, any names for other "recruits" being managed by P.S.I. from the supplement will be appreciated. I recall that the GM eventually turned one of them (after P.S.I. broke up) into a supervillain, a minor thorn in our sides. Much thanks for any help you can give. I would prefer an answer by email, if possible. The Shadow P.S. I'll gladly post the full character background once I have the info, if anyone is interested.
