  1. In my current game, we are low powered. Max is 75/75. I have a VPP to represent my char.

I am lucky in that my boss is a gamer, and he has nothing to do with my game. So we can bounce ideas about.

I am just an Iron Man knockoff. Just with far less points. For example, I cannot fly. Just jump/glide. My armour will stop a speeding sneeze.

My boss offered up a funny idea thing.

If you have a kid, or have grown up in the last decades, you have seen these things you throw at the wall; they stick. But, they fall down. Like a vertical slinky.

My gm and I are bandying this. Clinging, we figure. Uncontrolled? Side Effects (Like dying on the way down).

I really like this silly idea. But, as a Gm, he is responsible to ask me to detail it.

I like the idea of a gecko suit, or a stick suit. But only to get stuck and fall:~

  2. I have 6e. I am confused about the Linked limitation. (I missed 5e completely). I seem to be getting off the track because of the Compound powers idea.

Lets say I have a rka that also has a a ranged combat level bonus, like plus 2. It is only used with the rka. Is that linked, or compound?

Or I am missing the point, because it is not a power, but a skill?

Take it further, if it the rka is a focus, and it is a detachable laser sight, that is neither linked or compound right? I can take it off, put it on another rka. It is separate.

What if it is an integral laser sight (part of the focus, cannot be removed or used in any other way.) Is that linked, or compound?

I am not building a gun, I just want to get this concept.

  3. Re: A super school

I'd swear Hero did a book about this recently. It was based on a comic strip, or something.

I cannot remember the name, and I think it was for elementary school supers, but I would think the basic premise is similar. I only saw it advertised, but it was a stand alone with only basic rules for 5th edition.

    Anyone remember it?

  4. Re: 4th-6th VPP Question

The builds in G&G assume you're making the gadgets to stand alone... not necessarily to put them in a Variable Power Pool. So yes, many of them are built as Multipowers, and you technically cannot place a Multipower inside a Variable Power Pool. That's never changed.

For the rules as written, I'd suggest making your VPP take take only a 0 Phase to change. Then you can put the powers of the gadget easily one at a time, even if they're built as a MP in G&G. For example, rather than putting a Flashlight Laser build (as a MP) in your VPP (which would be illegal), you could instead say "On Phase 3, I'm using the VPP for Images (the Flashlight Laser build for providing light). On Phase 5, I'm using the VPP for RKA (the Flashlight Laser build for its laser), etc." In other words, use the individual slots from the gadgets in G&G as your VPP powers (instead of the entire MP builds), and only have a given slot's Power in your VPP when you're actually using that slot.

Now. Having said all that, were *I* your GM, I would be inclined to allow you to put MPs in your VPP as a house rule, subject to GM oversight. For example, I would probably only allow pre-defined gadgets to be used this way, such as ones taken from G&G. Also, I would probably only allow it for reasonably innocuous items, not MPs full of attacks, etc.

To start, I am a non-Super in a Super World.

I like your reasoning. My flashlight/laser is a flashlight laser-pointer; I have one in my pocket as I write this. Most of my vpp slots are just real-world gadgets.

Many weapons are in a mp frame, I just happen to not have any bought that way.

It seems reasonable to me to allow an mp through a vpp that is clearly defined. My gm is cool with pretty much whatever (I am a non-super in a Super World), I am just trying to lock this rule down.

I also should say, the only mp's I would buy are defined either in a book, or in my scrawl.

  5. Re: 4th-6th VPP Question

I have many limitations on my vpp. Need to go back to a lab, need to justify it with a skill (and an explanation), every item is designated as a common, uncommon rare or very rare object (which determines how long I am out points if a gadget is taken from me). My gm really does not care about this much; I am not trying to powergame.

I am just looking for a clarification on this issue.

    Again, Gadgets and Gear says:

"Players with characters who have Gadget Pool VPPs may find this book particularly helpful. Rather than having to build a new gadget using the HERO System rules every time, they can simply choose the device they want out of Gadgets And Gear and proceed without interrupting the game."

As I said initially, many of the gadgets described are in an mp frame. I know frame within a frame powers are illegal in 4th, but this wording and the book seems to ignore that. I only have Champ4, but have the basic 6e rules.

In 6e I see it explicitly stated you cannot buy vehicles, etc with the /5 rule. I am clearly missing the frame/frame rule.

  6. I am not new to Hero, but have not had a chance to play in many, many years.

I am playing 4th, but if a 6e book is has a better rule, it becomes a 4th house (my group is cheap).

I never bought 5e because I had no-one to game with.

I did buy 6e. The thing is I, I also have an copy of "Gadgets and Gear," and now I am lost. It was for 5th, I think.

I thought you could not include any mp, ep or vpp in any combo. Ep is gone, I see.

4e says "A Power Framework can never be bought

through another Power Framework. For example,

a character cannot create a Multipower with his

Variable Power Pool, or have a VPP as a slot in a

    Multipower."

I Know the act cost cannot exceed the Control Pool. All those rules.

I mainly ask because (GaG) it seems so friendly to a gadgeteer.

    From GaG

"Gadgets And Gear is particularly helpful for

characters trying to construct Power Frameworks

involving gadgetry. Between the various gadgets

and their options, a character can choose a suite of,

say, weapons or utility gadgets with just a few minutes’

work. Where possible and advisable, gadgets

are built in the 40-75 point range, to make it easy

to create Multipowers without having to alter point

    totals too much."

Here is where I get lost...

"Players with characters who have Gadget

Pool VPPs may find this book particularly helpful.

Rather than having to build a new gadget using

the HERO System rules every time, they can simply

choose the device they want out of Gadgets And

Gear and proceed without interrupting the game."

Would one of you be so nice as to tell me the obvious, "You missed 5e". But, be nicer to help.

I really do own books, not a pirate, so a pg reference is perfect.

So, most objects in that book use an mp frame. A flashlight is cheap. But I can only buy a flashlight laser as separate objects.

  7. Or Sixth, I have the book, just I am in a 4th campaign.

    In a Super Hero Campaign.

My GM and I are in a debate. He says an Focus is as limited as an Independent object, and they cannot stack. In effect, He says that Focus is a subset of Independent.

I have pointed out the difference, as far as I know...

I say an Independent object can be stolen, broke, lost and used against me.

He says there is no difference from a focus.

He says a Focus can be stolen, broke, lost and used against me.

I say, he does not understand Focus.

I could be totally lost, but as I have read it, a Focus can be taken, used against me, but if you want to use it after that encounter/adventure, you have to pay the CP cost. It is not just free for all to have.

Wheras, and Independent Object is usually by anyone, anywhere at anytime, so long as they can get it. If I want to replace it, I cannot simly go home and pray for it. I have to spend Cp.

    He disagrees.

To make it worse, there was a typo about what is bought as Independent once. I had learned the game that all objects were bought independent. He says independent is never used.

    Very Confused.

    Any answer would be loved.

(And yes, I did a search, but my Internets were being naughty. If you can point to a thread, i would love that too.)

  8. I am trying to build a heroic level power armour type.

I am so lost how to make the armour. When I try to buy it sectional it really breaks on me. I understand that should be some sort of advantage, but the math I have so far is thus:

If I was bitten by a radioactive armadillo, and my say, 10/10 armour (30 active) is a natural ability. Then it is 30 real points.

If it is a homogeneous piece of magical armour, it is through a device that can be taken away...but, (OIF -1/2), then it is 20 real points.

If it is by 1-2 locations (OIF -1/2, Protects 1 or 2 locations -2) it is 8 real points, * 16 locations. So 128 real. I inteded the armour to be ablative (Alblative -1), so then 7 real * 16 locations, so 112 real.

The idea was they can break, they degrade or I might forget to get my boots on before combat. I use them, but parts are wonky. (My charachter stole the basic design, and cannot get it right.) I know I can does this cheap with a MP, that is not the point. I wanted, say, my mask to be a OAF.)

I get that doing it by location is an advantage unto itself. I am not buying any other power through this frame work, just the armour power. Or PD/ED etc. Everything else is just through a oif, and I accept it I lose my mask, than I lost the powers associate with it.

Yet I can just but, say infrared as a natural ability for 5 act. You have to take my sight group to disable it. If it was through the mask, OIF. So 3 points. Why bother?

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong, or how buying sectional armour works so you pay a similar, or less price than a super?
