  1. Re: Traveller Hero... an update from the authors

looks like they have picked up an OGL/D20 license, T20 is/was produced by QLI. not sure if this is a variation on a theme or what.

    Nope, my friend.

It will be sort of a Classic Traveller which will also serve as the basic rules for MWM's Traveller 5. With T5 being the advanced rules, so to speak.

where are you finding questions about Traveller Hero on the Mongoose forums?

No questions answered so far. But I would look at their "General Discussion" subforum.

  2. Re: Traveller Hero... A Taste of things to come

the other ship I just finished from TNE is the Aurora Star Clipper, but I am saving that for regular publication at some point

the Aurora was the best ship design for TNE by far, its too bad the full book on the clipper was never published. I did kit out all the standard modules at least.

Fantastic news! :celebrateI also love the clipper design.

    Thanks!:)

  3. Re: Trans-Atlantic Airplane Flights in 1933

Maybe someone can help me. I'm trying to find out what airplanes would likely be used for trans-Atlantic flights in 1933. Primarily' date=' I'm interested in the speed and range of such aircraft. I'm not interested in commercial flights (if they had even started yest), but rather a plane that would be privately chartered for such a flight.[/quote']

1933 you say? Mmmm... Let's see...

Arc-en-ciel, a Couzinet 70 land-based monoplane aircraft crossed the Southern Atlantic in 14 hours flying at an average 230 kph (143 mph). At the time it was a world record of aerial speed, and the flight was a big step ahead in the establishment of an air postal service between Europe and South America.

    image004.gif

The same year Spanish aviators Collar and Barberán set a new world record of aerial distance over water when they flew from Seville (Spain) to Camagüey (Cuba) in their Spanish-built CASA-Breguet XIX GR (Súper Bidón), a biplane named Cuatro Vientos after the pioneer air force base near Madrid. Unfortunately, the two brave pilots disappeared never to be found during the second stage of their aerial journey (which should have taken them from Cuba to Mexico):(.

It is very sad and a reflection of the sorry state of the aeronautical history of my country that this feat is virtually unknown nowadays, both in Spain and abroad.:(

  4. Re: Traveller Hero... an update from the authors

    bit of a spoiler question...

Does Traveller Hero address The size and capacity of starhsip compartments and how much space systems require/takeup? (I am assuming it has some form of hybrid traveller/hero starship creation rules... hoping).

I am also interested in that question (I find the effects-based Hero system a little too abstract for my taste).;)

  5. Re: Traveller Hero, a major announcement

Traveller was always one of my favorite systems' date=' but one thing that always set my teeth on edge was that, by the time you had enough experience to be a viable character, you were in your late 50's to early 60's. It's no wonder that anagathic drugs were such a big part of the game! :P[/quote']

Traveller obviously did not take into account the effects of advance medicine and bioengineering either. Otherwise characters would not start to age at 30-something.

I don't know. I still love the game, but I feel it is already beginning to be terribly obsolescent. It is obviously a product of the late 70's and early 80's - before computers/communications and genetics showed their enormous potential. It definitely needs an extensive background overhaul... or maybe it's time for a change to a sort of "interstellar Transhuman Space"?

  6. Re: Living Steel?

There must be quite a few of us in that category. I tried playing it once but it took about 3 hours to run a few seconds of one-on-one combat...

Same here. Oh those crazy days one tried to achieve tabletop hyper-accuracy at the expense of playability... :P

I understand the Phoenix Command rules were later used in some FPS computer games...

  7. Re: War HERO

IMHO a "Military HERO" or "War HERO" genre book is a very cool idea. It should be a generic tome - hopefully followed by several setting books later on. This genre book could examine military life, the rise of armies, technologies used throughout history, expand the FH mass combat system to cover other periods, etc.

Regarding setting books, "WWII HERO" would be an instant success - it would be the surest bet. And judging from other hobbies, a "Modern War HERO" or even a "Roman/Crusader/Napoleonic HERO" would probably be very welcome also.

Also, the mere existance of the genre book would help those who try to set up a military RPG campaign in other alternate periods not so popular amongst roleplayers. So GMs anxious to set up a... let's say "Italian Wars HERO" campaign in the early 16th C would have something where to start from!

  8. Re: Star Hero fictional settings we haven't seen

I'd love to see a setting based on the Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" (and "Endymion") novels!

I still wonder how is it that nobody has made it so far... But it is a very attractive universe that encompasses almost every aspect from the sci-fi genre, from cyberpunk to space opera.

  9. Re: Guns, guns and more guns

And for an old gamer used to games like Battletech or even Car Wars where technological components took up space and weight' date=' this lack of either in Hero is disconcerting. How much DOES my particle accelerator weight compared with your Fusion gun? Can my Mk. 3 OGRE cross that damaged bridge?[/quote']

While I wholeheartedly agree with Dauntless' appraisal of Hero pros and cons, I find this particular quoted aspect most annoying!
