  1. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game /e boombox Or select from the emotes at the chat text box and pick a song type. Hover will cancel it. Best part of being a Mastermind is "/petsay saysomething here" I can have each of my pets use a boombox, dance, protest, wall lean, hold a torch, cheer, rate things, roll dice, play rock/paper/scissors, etc. Sometimes I have my undead or robots do a danceoff, or hold a torch while yelling "Freebird!", or protest ED and the gimping of tankers.
  2. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Tinman, with I5 and I6 gutting resistance and defense, Invuln tankers have come to rely on their secondary set attacks more and more, making them effectively gimped scrappers with much lower damage and marginally higher protection. The line is too blurred. The reason many former big tanker names have quit playing our tankers is because of what Statesman said the new tanker role is. When asked what the tanker brings to the table, Statesman said more HPs with some higher protection. The I6 tanker role is to temporarily take the brunt of the party aggro by taunting and tanking only the foes who your tanker AT primary can resist that attacks of best. That should leave only 3 or less minions per party member, and the rest of the party needs to quickly kill off their 3 foes each and then hurry up and save the tanker. That's the role, unheroically tank foes by the damage type they deal and hope your teammates can save you from the aggro in time. Meanwhile, you try to rely on your own attacks to stay alive by dealing damage. Replace the tanker with a blaster, and the party has additional damage to mow through foes much more readily. Replace with scrappers (especially katana/* or broadsword/*) and you have a high damage dealer that can also tank effectively. Replace with a controller and you have more holds, containment, and defender powersets, and possible pet. Replace with a Defender and you have additional debuffs, buffs, possible healing, and more ranged damage. Tankers are weaker than the other ATs now, and we find that unacceptable. Tankers bring much less to a party than any other AT. Further, in PVP, tankers are the only AT to lose their inherent and suffer the most from toggle dropping (most primary power protections are toggles for tankers, making tankers the only AT whose primary power set can be mostly negated by toggle dropping). Not fun. For CoH, I'd recommend you make a */Invuln scrapper. Damage is king, and the Katana and Broadsword sets offer additional defense through parry. Dark Melee offers some controller utitilities, Spines offers AOE ability with minor toxic, and claws are being looked at. Scrappers get their protections a bit slower than tankers, but Invuln is one of their choices. Scrapper protections are now only marginally lower than tankers (the difference is damage taken is slightly more and a bit lower HPs), but much higher attack damage with critical hits) In CoV, I now play Masterminds and Corrupters (Brute is distant third). Masterminds are seen as CoV's effective tankers, as our pets can take alpha strikes and garner initial aggro. MMs can also buff/debuff/heal to help a party and their pets much more. MMs are physically weak compared to tankers/brutes/scrappers/blasters, but as the pets are taking the hits instead, you are effectively very well protected. Corrupters are everything my Offensive Defenders were meant to be. Debuff, buff, heal with a lot more damage! Scourge is a very useful inherent! Brutes are what many feel tankers should have been. Scrapper level protection, tanker level protection caps, slightly lower damage at rest than tankers, and the ability to buff damage dealt by taking hits and attacking. Not counting scrapper crits which are random, Brutes can self buff their own damage to higher levels than scrappers by raising their fury, and have a very fast and fun playstyle. Scrappers are much more easily buffed to their max damage cap, but Brutes can reach the same damage amount (with a lot more buffing). The advantage for brutes is that instead of relying on crits that are random, you can control your own fury level for damage buff by rushing foes. I play MMs, Corrupters, and some Brutes now. For CoH, my tanker is collecting dust and is relegated to bankrolling my other heroes while awaiting some powerset improvements or an AT respec. I might revist my scrapper, but I find CoV to be a huge improvement over CoH for solo ATs and partying options. MM for the win. Pets, heals, buffs, and debuffs equal a very fun playing experience with the ability to play defender and tanker at the same time.
  3. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Invulnerable tankers used to get better at level 8 when Unyielding came up. Status protection helped, and back in I4 the resistance was noticable. True greatness appeared at 18 with Invincibility, which allows us to dodge. We sucked until 8, and got really good at 18, but we got by with higher resistances back then at those early levels than we get now at the higher levels. Now, the name Invulnerable feels like a bad and sick joke. 28% resistance isn't even close to Invulnerable. You're just a bag of HP with an inherent taunt that doesn't work in PVP, and toggles that are easily dropped in PVP. Kimmie, no longer playing her tanker, which used to be my favorite toon prior to I5 and I6 gutting her.
  4. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Tinman, actually, some of us get upset with others who want us to play "their way" and remind them we pay for our accounts to play "our way". Case in point, when someone asks "R U H3al3r?" I get very annoyed at the lack of proper spelling and ask them why they think they need a healer. Turns out, they don't use tactics. I mostly solo, tactics are my bread and butter. I am not about to try and keep people who don't use strategy alive and see a team wipe. All of my toons use the /hide command and solo. I loathe people thinking I should support them, random invites, and people pestering me after I decline their invites. I tend to ask why they don't play healers, if healers are so important, and remind them that they aren't the only ones who like to deal damage and earn glory. In CoV, I pointedly told people there are no "healers" as the healing powers are reduced in effectiveness and every AT can deal damage. Turned out, those people didn't want to listen and insisted I am a healer because I have either Radiation Aura or Twilight Grasp. As Radiation Aura is a fairly weak heal (great overall as the foes' damage is greatly reduced by Rad debuffs), I don't see that as a healing power to rely on. With Twilight Grasp, I have to score a hit on a foe to heal people around me. If I miss, I just waste endurance and have to wait for the power to recharge. If I hit, people had best be very close to me as the heal radius and amount are reduced in CoV. When I feel like teaming, I let them know I can heal in a pinch, but am playing offensively. Most are cool with that, as a strong offense can mitigate a need for healing. Just beware that some come from other MMOGs and don't understand that CoH/CoV has many ways to do something, and no "right" way to play.
  5. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, and Warburg are the 3 current PVP zones that cross over (Recluse's Victory is coming). Bloody Bay can be reached from Skyway, Siren's Call from Steel Canyon, and Warburg can be reached from Kings Row.
  6. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Blue, our base accuracy is 75% in PVE, and falls to 50% in PVP. Your ACC and To-Hit enhancements modify that base %, so your accuracy drops significantly in PVP. That is why your attack seems so hit and miss. A friend of mine tells me that making himself and his zombies invisible is giving him a huge edge in PVP as a MM. That intrigues me quite a bit, but I am not willing to give up anything in my build to add stealth and group invisibility.
  7. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Mike, I deleted my En/EM blaster to make room for villains, but this is her ED compliant respec build. Hopefully it will give you some good ideas for I6 to modify for your style. 8. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Yep, my 3 mains and 9 major alts are all on Champion. @SvZurich to catch me.
  9. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I haven't gotten that far yet. Karen Lokidittir is just now starting the List arch (Night Maiden did it earlier) and I can't find the time to play during my work week's long hours. Will play more after work tomorrow when I start my weekend. So far, letting foes get away seems to break mission archs. I am hoping to use Tar Patch to prevent that (and am dreading the Wretch arch).
  10. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game There is a fair amount of repetition, but the newspaper missions can offer some variety, The Radio is my favorite contact that is just unique with awesome missions, and the new zones are awesomely designed! Just one word of caution, if you love Superspeed, start considering another travel power. I like robbing banks, kidnapping, beating up on former heroes, stealing new items someone might be interested in, doing missions to get on Arachnos' good side, etc. So much goodness! Plus, see Blues' post above.
  11. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I certainly think it is worth $50. What are you looking for in a game? That would be the determining factor in our answers to you.
  12. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Boccur has just one set, where you claim a book and you get the pet early in that arch. Boccur sent my Night Maiden to The Radio! Radio Radioooooo Radioooooooooo Free Opportunity! Radio gives you a chance to give new heroes something to do as they start their Paragon City careers. AND Radio gives you a chance to get to the top of the good guy's attention span.
  13. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Garou, you will LOVE The Radio! Radiooo Radioooooo Free Opportunity!!! Ahem. I LOVE the Radio! Both mission sets were fun, exciting, and actually made me feel like a proper villain! Radio, I love you! Plus it knows all the latest grooves! Do Boccur on your alts. His missions rock also! Want a temp pet? 5 use zombie goodness!
  14. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I am on Champion, with backup toons on Justice. @SvZurich Global Champion Heroes: Kara Lokison (was my Supergirl, now on the shelf due to I5 and I6 making tankers nearly useless, Invuln/SS Tanker) Skadi Thiassi (the Norse Goddess of Winter and The Hunt, Ice/Ice Blaster) Sinmora (wife/female self of the Norse Fire Giant ruler Surt(Surtor), Fire/Fire Blaster) Reality Shifter (Rebecca Lokison, Grav/Kin Controller) Hela Lokison (DM/DA Scrapper) Rachel Lokison (Illusion/Rad Controller) Champion Villains: Karen Lokidittir (means daughter of Loki, Kara's cousin, Necro/Dark Mastermind) Tina Rutgers (Robot/Dark Mastermind) Kimmie (representing me and how pissed I can get, DA/Fire Brute) Thistle Briar (Plant/Thorn Dominator) Zumie (remake of my Justice Defender/Offender, Rad/Rad Corrupter) Night Maiden (remake of another Justice Offender, Dark/Dark Corrupter)
  15. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game For the CoH only side, I6 brought the following: ED (see above post for what it stands for), a means of forcing us to slot at least 2 types of enhancements per power by crippling the effect of 6 slotting something. No more perma-Hasten, no more 4-6 slot damage, no more 6 slot Stamina, no more 6 slot Health, no more 6 slot Regen or Invuln powers that have limited slotting options, and no reward for diversifying. Up to 2 of the same SOs, no loss. 3rd has a slight loss. 4-6th, huge loss. Where 6 slotting gave a 200% bonus when using same enhancement type in one power, and 3 slotting gave 100%, you now get 95% with 3 slots, and 110% with 6. 2 slots still gives a 66% improvement. I6 also gave 3 PVP zones for heroes (2 of which allow other "heroes" to gank you). Siren's Call is where you fight in hotspots for advantages, and collect bounties on the other side's members. Bloody Bay is where you collect meteor fragments to refine and get a temp pet, yet radiation allows hero teams to gank other heroes, and villain teams to gank other villains in order to steal meteor fragments. Warburg is where you try to gain control of a nuclear, biological, or chemical warhead missile, and the entire zone is free for all. My tanker almost died to a controller who stopped me from leading an Arachnos scientist to safety in return for a code. Had she killed me, she would have taken on of my codes. Tankers can easily be mezed now, and in PVP tankers lose their inherent and can have controller easily drop the toggles that comprise their primaries. In light of that and Kara's resistance loss due to ED, she is now on the shelf. I6 also brought to you Supergroup mode to earn prestige and salvage for supergroups and bases. However, to visit your base or create one, you must buy CoV. Lastly, CoV brought in Gladiator badges to allow you to earn like Pokemon to get pet teams to use in the arena. You get a set value to spend on your team, each pet has a cost, and up to 3 pet types can comprise your team. If you have already earned a villain badge, you will automagically get a gladiator badge if one exists for those foes. Nothing important, just a chance to get a temp pet and power at the risk of being ganked, a new arena pet fighting option, and the power to own a base and/or contribute to your group. Oh, with SG Mode, at level 34 and above you will no longer earn Influence/Infamy while in SG Mode. You will not want to use SG Mode if saving for SOs or costumes. Just a little FYI.
  16. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I6 went live the day the pre-orders received our 2 day headstart. It is live.
  17. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Champion Server! That's where we are.
  18. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Thank you for understanding dear. Funny, so far each and every time I have flared up has been when my tanker was hit. Proof I should just retire her? I found a use for those extra slots (limited slotting options on primaries that only accept one or two types), behold 6 slot TP Foe! Yes, seriously, I had no other place worth placing those slots. 2 range, 2 interrupts, 1 recharge, and 1 end reduction. TP Foe early and often. Now that Kara has Jab set to auto, perhaps I should actually slot the early powers that I mostly ignore, to conserve Endurance while using Gauntlet... PVP is where Kara falls down. Drop a DoT on her, and she can't use TP Foe. Drop her toggles and she is mezed. Gauntlet is disabled in PVP. I don't exactly like PVP, but I want to be able to survive when someone tries to gank me, and give them a good whooping for trying. My Warburg experience where I had to flee an attempted ganking from a Fire/Rad controller really left a bad taste in my mouth. Still, she didn't get my missile codes, and I still got my missile launched. If I ever play Kara again, and I team with anyone on Champion, she has a Biological missile in orbit to buff the team with. +Regen goodness. She also has a pet Shivan, and 1 or 2 Warwolves on call. She can still PVE, but she now avoids AV missions as she can't solo those, and can't contribute for more than 2.5 minutes before needing to flee and rest. Unstoppable has a 3 minute limit, and its crash leaves her with 200 HP and no endurance. Going from 1700 to 200 with no protection is bad.
  19. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game James, status protection comes from Unyielding at level 8. Unyielding is a 5% base resistance to Smashing and Lethal damage, 10% resistance to Toxic/Energy/Elemental, and all of our status protection. It also provides a -5% Defense debuff, making us easier to hit. With Invincibility at 18, we need 3 foes in melee range to counter that defense debuff. Manchine, I apologize if I come off rude. I like you pilgrim. I get very easily riled when my favorite character loses her role. When someone who has not personally experienced this situation comments that they are happy with it, I will react. I apologize, I am not personally out to get you, I just really have a beef with people speaking without personal experience. It's a personality flaw of mine.
  20. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I am a Corrupter now, exploring MMs and Dominators in my spare time (when I am not SCOURGING). I want something that can survive its aggro, and these 3 ATs can indeed do that. With tankers, honestly speaking as a tanker in CoH, there is now no point to playing one. When a tanker has to pick and choose which minions to aggro in order to survive the damage, they are not protecting the team from the rest, nor from bosses, nor from LTs. Further, with Invuln and Statesman saying he is just fine with that play example, he neglects to mention that he is about to reduce the Invincibility defense bonus to 1/3 of its current values, as he has stated that the Live values are too high and will be reduced to 1.5% def per melee mob. Assuming he received a 42% Def bonus from his melee foes, he can expect to have only 14% in the same example when he makes the change on the Live servers. Manchine, roll and Invuln tanker and let me know if you feel useful for the team in the post 30 game. When you hit 40, only then come tell me how you feel about the AT and whether you think it contributes anything useful to a team. In the meantime, I am a Corrupter.
  21. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Night Maiden (Dark/Dark Corrupter) hit 11 herself and set up Soloists. Now with a SG named SOLOists, why do people still see my out and about blasting and then ask me to team? Well, at least they are asking. People in CoV are much better about asking if I would like to team instead of just sending blind invites. I like my 1 room, just a shame that solo I will never be able to flesh out a full PVE base due to prestige costs and amount earned. I plan to play in SG mode until 24, then exit it as 24 seems to be the level when prestige begins to lower the amount of Infamy that I get. Now to figure out the deal with the ghost traps in FT Hades... Do I just aggro ghosts, fly over the walls, stand on a trap, and kill? I understand that summons a level 15 boss ghost, and I have trouble at 11 with the Arachnos guards when I badge hunt at the FT. Well, I have trouble now, 5 more bars and I will resume owning them and their sheer numbers. I can take out 3 easy, as per Statesman's vision. Oh, Statesman finally officially spelled out the I6 tankers' role in PVE, and we are not happy. The tanker's role is to use superior aggro management to take on as many foes as they can in a team, leaving hopefully only 3 foes for each remaining teammate. The teammates are to quickly take out their 3 each and then IMMEDIATELY save the tanker by taking out the tanker's foes. He said Tankers are NOT expected to take out more than 3 foes themselves safely, merely TEMPORARILY hold as much aggro as possible and hope their friends come save them. In his "proper" play example, Statesman took a 32 Invuln/Fire tanker, SKed it to 49, and explained how he took up 1/3 of the total spawn aggro for his full party, and then was taken down to 1/3 of his health before his teammates could save him. He said that was exactly how it should be. Go to the CoH/CoV Dev board's Dev Digest and look for his comment. We pointed out that ANY other hero AT can BETTER benefit a team than a tanker can. A party would be better off with another controller, blasters, scrapper, or defender in that slot. We also have a Broadsword/Invuln scrapper offer to show Statesman how to really tank in CoH, explaining that Broadsword's parry makes them a much better "tank" than any tanker as things stand now. No rebuttal yet from Statesman yet, so let me recap. Tankers now are left with no team role (aggro is no good if you can't survive it), severely reduced primary powers (much lower resists and defenses and mez resistance), no inherent in PVP, taunt dropped to 50% chance of working in PVP, and are subject to toggle dropping in PVP shutting off most of their primary powers. They are the only AT whose primary power set is negated by brawl, Energy Melee, and controller/defender powers in PVP. In PVP a tanker spends their time reactivating their defensive toggles, only to find themselves destroyed by unresistable damage, toggle drops, and much lower mez resistance. In PVE, we can still solo up to 3, cannot stand up to even the weak Envoy of Shadow A/V without relying on Unstoppable's 3 minute timer (and deadly crash), and are expected to die if our teammates are not quick in dispatching their leftover foes and then coming to your aid. I think it is safe to say Statesman hates Tankers, and that one should roll a scrapper if they like melee in CoH. I will be playing a Corrupter now as a result. The I5/I6 gutting of my tanker has left a foul taste in my mouth for playing melee toons that rely on toggled defenses. I may dust off my brute and scrapper, but my tanker is on hold at 42, and will now considering midding and PLing to 50. Here is a link to Statesman's exact post on the current Tanker role. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Tanker&Number=4029046&bodyprev=#Post4029046 Superior Aggro Management only. Basically just a big bag of hit points designed to soak an alpha and hope the friends come to my rescue. Wow. No thank you. Send in the Phantom Army or someone's pet instead.
