  1. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form

After a thorough reading of Multiform, OIHID, Shape Shift, and Transform, I'm leaning towards Multiform as the closest way to ape the comics.

Not that the others aren't valid (hey, I was pretty convinced with the Transform/OIHID path), but pretty much all the pieces are in place with Multiform.

Shape Shift allows a 10% Mass alteration, which doesn't really work since he gains 11" of height and doubles his weight.

You get Reversion (-½) for Multiform to show that he loses his Osmium form with a loss of consciousness. I'm going with a -½ instead of a -1 so that Stunning won't be enough to revert.

Damage carries over between forms, so that doesn't defy comic story arcs.

They specifically mention the 15 Pt Multiform Amnesia Disadvantage for a character that has seperate memories (Hulk was like that at times).

  2. Re: Drizzt & Artemis Entreri

Alot of the time in the books... he has drawn his scimitars so fast that to other people it looked as if they appeared in his hands... could you do that by putting IPE on his Fast Draw? What could you do to simulate that?

    Well I was thinking

STR 13 (just because that's his D20 strength)

DEX 22+ (plus whatever his leg bracers give him)

    CON 16 (his D&D con)

BODY 12-15 (wasn't that sure about this one...)

    INT 17-19

    EGO 17

    PRE 15-20

    COM 16-18

Sounds pretty good... I wasn't really sure about anything other than he was not that strong, but extremeley quick.

He would definitely have alot of Enhanced Perception.. and possibly extended range on his sight and his hearing. Some sort of Defense Maneuver if not DF Maneuver IV. He would most likely have some Mental Defense and Power Defense. Also I imagine him having a base speed of 5-6 not sure how much speed his leg bracers would give him.

Yeah, he'd get IR Vision, and 2-4 levels of Enhanced Perception.

Defense Maneuver IV - forgot that one.

Don't know about MDef or PDef.

I'd give him a SPD 4, and the leg bracers a +1-2 SPD

but does anyone here know if he would have any kind of Danger Sense?

I think he's pretty covered with his high DEX, Defense Maneuver and Combat Sense. I don't remember him "sensing danger" at the Danger Sense level.

oh and what's Deadly Blow and what's Evasive?

Deadly Blow is a FH Talent that allows Extra DC of Killing Attacks, simulating accurate blows in limited situations.

Evasive is a FH talent that simulates a "special knack for dodging blows, deadly traps, and sometimes even spells at the last second". Its Desolid with special limitations.

  3. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form

My own house rule was changing into your "costume" took at least 1 Turn (12 Segments), while Instant Change was... well... instant.

Colussus would need either Multiform or Instant Change (which in 5e is that Transform Power I started with). Both work, while Instant Change requires more work to build the character but 1 character sheet and Multiform is simpler to build the character but needs 2 character sheets.

Is the trade-off actually time and a piece of paper? Not really, but I like to draw odd conclusions now and again.

  4. Re: Drizzt & Artemis Entreri

Here's a few items I'm make sure to include:

    Ave STR (8-13)

    Skills:

    Analyze Combat Technique

    Several CSLs

    Fast Draw

    KS: Underdark

    Ride Horse - minimum points

    Survival: Underdark

    Survival: Tundra

    Survival: Woodlands

    Stealth

    Two-Weapon fighting

    Perks:

Contact - Alustrair (sp?) from Silverymoon

    Contact - Mithrill Hall Dwarves

    Reputation

    Talents:

    Combat Luck

  5. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics

( Actually' date=' I believe it has been stated in a few comincs that in the Marvel Universe, psionic energy is a part of the electromagentic spectrum; this is even mroe true now since the X-Man transmogrified into pure psionic energy and interlaced himself with Earth's EM field. )[/quote']

    Erk.... Who writes this stuff?

  6. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?

    From the FAQ...

Q: Is Missile Deflection just an “extension†of Block, so that you could perform Blocks and Missile Deflections in the same Segment as part of a unified defense?

A: No. Missile Deflection functions using mechanics similar to Block, but it’s not an “extension†of Block per se. Both Block and Missile Deflection are Attack Actions, and as such end a character’s Phase. Combat Skill Levels that affect Block do not automatically apply to Missile Deflection, though some may depending on how they’re defined.

The new Ultimate Martial Artist has, on page 142-43, some optional rules for Martial Block and Missile Deflection (Including the "Use your CV bonuses from Martial Block for Deflection). And, of course, the GM could always rule in contradiction to the statement above if he felt that Block and Missile Deflection should be “extensions†of each other. That might be perfectly appropriate for some campaigns.

  7. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?

The rules do state that you can use (at GM's Option) the CV bonuses from Martial Block with Missile Deflection. This I'm going to investigate, cause it sounds pretty interesting - I go defensive and block/swat everything coming at me.

  8. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form

I am pretty sure all there are better ways of building Colossus than what I originally posted - multiform sounds pretty easy.

I guess I was trying to build the most angst-ridden, nit-picky and frustrating version - not the best idea I've come up with.

    Thanks for the input!

  9. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form

    *does a bit more research*

Hunh, seems Colossus touched and kissed Rogue without effect in X-Men (2nd series) #100. Apparently a storyline was planned, but with Piotr dead, it will probably be forgotten about. Then again, he did get better (resurrected in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men).

    However, she has touched & absorbed his powers in: Uncanny X-Men #179; X-Men & Alpha Flight (1st series) #1; Heroes for Hope #1; Uncanny X-Men #208 & 247; and X-Men (2nd series) #80, 102, 106, and 107.

Thanks. I knew my memory was faulty, but I was dang sure I'd seen Colossus nonplussed by Rogue.

  10. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form

Couldn't have been vaguer if I tried. Sigh....

I thought about Multiform, but decided agianst it since he's still Piotr (full memory, can still paint up a storm... heh... pun time... ) while in Osmium form, so I am heading down the Only in Osmium form trail.

The Transform is his method of... transforming.

The Osmium Catastrophe is a disadvantage that makes him revert to Piotr whenever he is unconscious.

I was listing the Life Support to see if anyone sees glaring (or minute) errors.

I plan to make him a decent 75-100 points of Piotr, and use the rest to represent his Mutant powers (armor, pumped up stats, etc...)

    Hope that helps.

  11. I have the following Power and Disadvantage to define the Piotr/Colossus transform.

First, he can change into an Osmium-like metal nearly instantly. He is immune to Rogue's touch, and IIRC, the nullifier didn't affect him either (then again, my memory is just good enough for me to find the bathroom).

8 Colossus' Osmium Form: Cosmetic Transform 2d6 (Poitr into Osmium Form), Difficult To Dispel (x8 Active Points; +1/2); Same Clothing ([Limited]; -1/2), No Range (-1/2)

Note: A Supress or Dispel would need 136 points to return Colossus to Piotr.

His biggest limitation is that should he become unconscious, he immediately reverts back to Piotr. I believe this includes falling asleep (his longest time in Osmium form was ~5 days), but again,, that pesky memory. So...

20 Osmium Catastrophe!: Reverts to Human Form if Unconsious; Always Occurs(Uncommon)

To represent his basic Osmium form, I threw this together...

23 Osmium Form: LS (Eating: Character does not eat; Safe in High Pressure; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Self-Contained Breathing; Sleeping: Character only has to sleep every 5 days)

    Any suggestions?

  12. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?

I'm not going to knock the Questionite Shield, since it's fright'nly close to what's been discussed here so far. The only thing the shield doesn't have is the bonus to DCV, Block, or KNB.

I guess I'm having a hard time seeing the Desolid option usable. You are getting the exact same results as a decent Block maneuver - miss completely, or hit. The shield makes it much easier to block the attack, so a bonus to Block makes sense to me.

You can only block HtH attacks, right? Can you Block an area-effect HtH attack (Hulk hits Cap with a dumpster)? I can't find a yes or no answer.

And you can only Missile Deflect non-area Ranged attacks, right?

  13. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?

Someone asked for the write-up for the Questionite Shield from Gadgets & Gear. While I don't want to get stomped on for copyright stuff, here is the basics... MANY Advantages & Limitations not mentioned.

    MP - Questionite Shield

Slot 1 - Force Wall; RSR, Restricted Shape, other ADV/LIM...

Slot 2 - Armor; Usable Simultaneously, Same Hex, other ADV/LIM

    Slot 3 - Missile Deflection

Slot 4 - Shield Bash (HA)

Slot 5 - Shield Edge (HKA)

    Slot 6, 7, 8... - Thrown Shield (EB); 1 Rec. Charge, AOE, other ADV/LIM

Slot X - Defense against Popourizzi

It also includes suggestions to modify for a "Force Field" Shield, and a Stronger or Weaker Shield.

  14. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?

+14 to Block plus -10 KNB? Block stops all knb doesn't it?

Oops. Right, no need for KNB w/ a successful Block.

Block does not require relative STR comparisions, correct? I believe that was a House Rule I experienced when I actually played Champions. You could use some of your block levels to increase your STR, which was helpful in Blocking a Hulk "Smash".

The Damage reduction can work if you assume AEs/EXs leak around the shield, depending upon the damage levels in your campaign. I think I like method better however :)

I was trying to do the old "Usable by 1 Other Simultaneously" along with "must be in Same Hex", and chickened out to just "Area Effect - 1 Hex". Call me Ishmael.

Not really sure I like my Shield, either. What does Cap do if he just sent 'ol Baron Zemo XII's ray blast "right back at'cha" using an aborted Missile deflection, then Grey Gargoyle tries to kick him?

Interesting that you put AP on the thrown Strike. Makes it very different from the HtH strike.

The HtH strike is more of a shield bash, whild the Thrown Strike is the 'ol frizbee-edge whack.

What little I remember of Cap is that when he hits you with the shield, you go down. Mandriods included, IIRC.

Also (while not Shield related), my Cap has 6 levels with Thrown Shield, for bouncing, spreading and returning it to him.

  15. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?

I've sort of avoided this because any construction is very specific to the campaign at hand. They often don't make sense outside that.

Thanks! I figured as much, but blindly asked anyway.

    ...

The inter-relationship between fixed defensive actions, the slot costs, plus the lockout slots are tactically interesting, as is the loss of the +2 DCV if he uses it offensively.

Cap could use Slots 1, 2 and 4 simultaneously? Noting the "requires block action for Slot 2... +2 DCV, +30 rPD/rED, +5 to Missile Deflection. Wow.

You don't need to lockout Slots 7 & 8 with Slot 2 since you have the recoverable charge. Right?

Also note that he does more damage HtH then range (due to the Martial Arts effects), thus giving him another reason to close to battle- as in the comics.

I have a BLAST running this character. The other one I run is Cyclops when it's a X-Men game.

Appreciate you sharing, as it shows more on your thought processes.

Here's an old version of Captain America's Shield I fiddled with... I don't claim it's as accurate as you're looking for, Ki-Rin, but made a lot of sense at the time. Please remember that I had to recall all from memory - don't own any Cap comics.

    60 MP[90] Captain America's Shield:OIF (-½)

    1 u1) DCV +3 (15 AP)

    5 u2) 50% E Damage Reduction plus 50% P Damage Reduction, Area Effect - 1 Hex (+½), Only vs. Area Affecting Attacks (-½) (90 AP)

    5 u3) Missile Deflection/Reflection plus +20 to Deflect roll (90 AP)

    5 u4) +14 to Block plus -10" KB (90 AP)

    1 u5) +20" Leaping, Only vs. Falling Damage (-¼) (20 AP)

    1 u5) Strike: +3d6 HA, HtH (-½), 0 End (+½) (22 AP)

    3 u6) Edge: 1½d6 P HKA, AP (+½), 0 End (+½) (50 AP)

    2 u7) Thrown Strike: 8d P EB, AP (+½), 1 Recoverable Charge (-1¼) (60 AP)

    2 u8) Thrown Edge: 2½d6 P RKA, AP (+½), 1 Recoverable Charge (-1¼) (60 AP)

My Cap has 25 STR, 26 DEX, 23 CON, 7 SPD, wears 8 PD/ED armor. I didn't think to add the lockout option.
