  1. Re: Champion Battlegrounds: What do you think?

In the end, the PCs actually ended up having to save Holocausts minions from the Minutemen, then fighting Holocaust on top of it.

And yet we bagged him! At the cost of a lot of Body, myself included since my character took a power beam to the head at point blank range (and thus was in a coma for a loooong time). :D

  2. Re: Enemies of San Angelo

It was a deeply refreshing reminder of why I liked Hero for Supers. And Deadweight was one of the funnest one-trick ponies I've ever thrown at my players.

That was an embarrassing throw down. *muttergrumble*

  3. Re: Champions Jargon

Heh...I know I can't e the only one to use this...

Redshirt - Any disposable good guy NPC, usually an agent or soldier or somesuch, and you just know he ain't comin' back from the mission.

    Yep.

  4. Re: Champions Jargon

"DT says: hit 'em again!" A player whose character was named Dr. Toxin had advice for us newbies: if the villain goes into the negatives, hit him again so that he's so far gone he won't get up anytime soon. See also "GM Fiat"

"Eye-popping Death" This is a common one, though we generally don't see a lot of those in our games.

"GM Fiat" When a N/PC is so far into the negatives it is at the GMs discretion when they will miraculously come out of their coma.

I'll edit this if I think of more later, these are just off the top of my head. Jhamin may want to add to these.

  5. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...

I just finished Neil Gaiman's "American Gods." I can say that I was pleased at his range and use of multicultural deities. He even includes mythological and folkloric creatures as well; he really did his homework. His style has developed beautifully since "Neverwhere," which I just started reading a few days ago. Not as good as "American Gods" IMO. I'd say "American Gods" has a lot of the "Sandman" flavor to it while maintaining its own unique identity, if that makes sense.

    I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

  6. Re: Wwyddiyryc?

I am blessed by having Hex as a core player in my group. The girl can remember names of random Bar Patrons from two campaigns ago....

It's a knowledge skill bought only versus RPGs. Too bad I can't apply that memory to college.

  7. Re: YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

I'd have to say that every one of my friends who reads these boards and is likely to see this post (Like Hex & Bluebudda) are such amazing folks that at least half my points are spent on knowing them.

Mm-hm... buttering us up I see. You just want better attendance at your games, that's all!

  8. Re: Favorite Abuse

I kind of like the one where you buy rarely needed powers as Favors.

For example: Instead of Healing w/ressurection, buy Favor: Angel of Death & cash in to ask him to not take one of your buddies.

Well darnit, that's why I bought it!

  9. Re: Here on Earth-2: your evil counterpart!

If current characters were involved, I suspect that Nephlim the Fallen angel seeking redemption as a human would find a duplicate that was an angel who had escaped her duties in heaven into the mortal world rather than face hell & now reveled in sin knowing that as a mortal with knowledge of all the rules there were ways of guarenteeing an undeserved spot in paradise.

Hm, so does that mean PRIMUS would be just another corrupt branch of a corrupt government, and there would be an evil Agent Bishop? What an evil couple they would make! Unless the evil Neph just kept him chained to the bed most of the time or something... :nonp:

  10. Re: This week on "Champions"...

    >Last Week<

Guest Stars: King Midas, Ankylasaur, Steel Commando, Scrambler, Silver Avenger Cook

    >This Week<

Vanguard Saturday, 6PM Central Time - The team celebrates Halloween with family and friends in their secret identities before working out the kinks in their new Danger Room.

Also: Vanguard leads a PRIMUS assault when Telios unveils a new generation of clones.

Guest Stars: Assault Agent Mitch Bishop, Andrew the Pianist, Telios, Thunderbolt

At the request of Jhamin, a more character driven episode**:

    >Next Week<

Vanguard Saturday, 6PM Central Time - Nephilim's boyfriend Assault Agent Mitch Bishop gets to explore "4th base" with the winged bullet-proof paranormal, while Scorch spends yet another Friday night alone. Meanwhile, Buzzsaw continues to question his own happiness while living the good life...

**while Jhamin is the GM and not I, this is pretty accurate.

  11. Re: Why that costume

Aw come on, post a pic...

I bet you have one :)

I do, I do... sorry it took so long. These are drawings of my characters that I scanned and colored on the computer. Apologies for the size on some of these, I'm new at posting pics. :P

This is my current Champs character Nephilim (I did use a Wonder Woman pose as reference):

    This is a close up:

This is Modem, a previous character:

  12. Re: Women!

I hope you know I had to go track down my copy just to see.

He's a little more... "Fabio" than I expected to see.

Yeah as stated in an earlier reply, I don't dig blonds w/long hair... Fabioness aside (ugh), he's got a sensative cast to his features and amazing hands. Give the guy a haircut and I'm set. *fans herself*

Seriously though, he's fantasy fodder. Jhamin can attest to this (having heard my rant over the many years we've known each other) but personally I prefer my men soft/a little on the heavy side, with some facial hair.

  13. Re: Women!

    Euh!?... Please do...

(Damn, I am gonna have to look at this book to see what turns Hex on... :) )

Normally I don't go for long haired blonds, but the way Todd Lockwood painted this guys arms and hands... WOO!

  14. Re: Women!

Then wouldn't you get a bigger male audeance with more female characters?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking! Chicks and gay men should be all over HERO given the character gender balance of the books....

  15. Re: My Avatar

I like "good" Keiko with her back to the viewer, speaking from a composition point of view. The second "good" pic and the evil one are common poses. I think the first one implies a sense of humility on the character's part.

    ...

Jesus, have I earned my Art Criticism degree yet or what??

  16. Re: What is it about Champions?

Of course the one Vamp with Fortidude 3 promptly crawled out & evicerated them, but up until then they were batting .1000

Hey we survived, man! And I seem to recall we fire bombed his ass too at the end... we succeeded in destroying them all but only after huuuuuuuuuge property damage. :nonp:

  17. Re: Romantic Villians

A bad boy, who might be tamed by a good woman. A hint of a tragic past.

    A gentleman thief, perhaps?

My lightweight brick has Cheshire Cat as a contact. This happened when she checked out his drivers license while he was out cold and found out his secret identity and address. Anytime she shows up to blackmail him for info or a favor he puts the moves on her and really overplays "how such a strong sexy woman has him at such a disadvantage" and that he's "at her mercy" (all this being said with a roguish grin). He also continuously gives her roses and tries to surprise her with romantic dinners.

Depending on how you want to play him, he closely fits the bill you're describing. He had his origin while trying to kill himself after his wife left him, and while he's definitely a catburglar he sticks to that and not actual violence.

  18. Re: Why that costume

Nephilim used to be a genuine warrior angel, and now that she's "mortalized" and human, her Hero ID is similar but not exactly like her original angelic armor. It's basically a Roman style bronze breast plate with a white ankle-length loincloth, a small cape that attaches at the shoulders, and sandals. Her features change enough from secret ID to Hero ID, negating the need for a mask.

  19. Re: Hero System women are all insanely attractive

Speaking as an artist and a woman, normally I would have a snit about how the figure is always rendered with current beauty aesthetics in mind and no variation. But in the comics most people are average to really good looking, with the only ugly characters being ugly because it's part of their concept or history. So it makes sense the chicks have 16" waists and DD breasts, and the men are all 6'6" and ripped. That's just the genre, and that's why it's so cheap to buy up your COM.

And I also tend to play characters that are cute or good looking (without being crazy good looking), but that's because it's fun to be something you're not for a few hours on the weekend. I can't fly, but my Champions character can, dammit.

If I wanted to play ugly, I'd play in a different system. :ugly:;)

  20. Re: Soulless?

Note that some philosophies hold that Demons and Angels don't have souls, they are simply good and evil personified.

Golems, some elementals, AIs, and undead would also likely not have souls. Nor would those who sold their souls as part of a mystic pact.

Heck, if you want to get philosophical, do clones?

    *groan*

Jhamin! Step away from the can of worms! I repeat: step AWAY from the can of worms! :weep:
