  1. Re: "So, Thor hits Superman with Mjolnir..." Hey again, As to Superman holding onto and lifting Mjolnir... of course Superman is worthy!! But that would be a way for Thor to know that he should not be fighting Superman BIG THOUGHT BUBBLE "By Odin's eye this Man of Steel doth heft the sacred hammer Mjolnir... Mayhaps I misjudged him..." So Thor offers the olive branch and of course the big blue boy scout accepts... Thats how it would most likely go down with I am sure many different variations. Gaining the power of Thor is a nice plot device and is dependent on the motives of the one wielding the hammer. My question would be had Thor had to share the power of the Hammer.... If Cap picks up the Hammer does he get the power of Thor?... what happens to the Thor that he was standing side by side with...? To continue this discussion and take it in a new direction... under what circumstance do these Two titans of their Universes clash? Is Superman hoodwinked and altered by red kryptonite and set upon Thor by Loki or Dr. Doom? Is Thor brought through over by Darkseid with a motherbox and "convinced" of the threat that Superman poses. (Not sure how this would come about.... I threw my lot in with Marvel years ago so for those true blue DC fans please expound upon the notion with heart felt devotion.) Under what plaussible circumstances do these two come together? At that point you can begin the debate again as to who would win and why? ie (maybe in the marvel universe the sun's radiation does not have quite the empowering effect on Superman....kind of homefield advantage for Thor.) Its been a great thread and I just want to hear more thoughts on the subject as the focus and reasoning are expounded upon.
  2. Re: Name My Supervillian! I am a fan of simplicity (at times) What about just The Kaiser or just Kaiser Great visual by the way!!
  3. Re: "So, Thor hits Superman with Mjolnir..." Hey folks, This is another side note but it goes back to people's reference to Kingdom Come. (If this has already been stated I apologize for adding to the clutter!) I have seen where numerous folks talk about Superman's confrontation with Captain Marvel in Kingdom Come but what I want to talk about is where Superman and Wonder Woman are speaking aboard the space station and Supes is fiddling with Wonder Woman's sword and it cuts him. It is just a nick and thats all but he is cut and I presume it is a magic blade. It is not Excalibur or the Sword of Roland, Its not the Power Sword or the Star Sword but it is a magical sword and it can slice right through and make Supes bleed. Now Mjolnir is an epic weapon!! It is defining weapon in the Marvel Universe. It is an artifact!! It is unique and awsomely powerful especially in the hands of Thor. If the nick on his finger from a magical blade sometimes wielded by Wonder Woman can make him bleed then what does happen when he is hit by the full force of a hammer Strike deliverd by The Thunder God. "So, Thor hits Superman with Mjolnir..." I assume it hurts like hell and probably injures him....lets hope he took it on the arm or shoulder cause he was moving or blocking. If that be the case, then I think Superman has a fracture and he works harder to avoid contact and uses his many other gifts to best Thor.... the fight last several months and we the fans are incredibly entertained. (happy ending for us??)
  4. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord While on the Topic of Strength in both Marvel Publications and Hero one should remember that when we say Spidey can lift 10 Tons we are talking about a bench press. In Hero we are given examples of what a character can pick up and take about one step with. I always found I could Squat roughly twice what I could bench but I cannot begin to imagine what I could pick up and take a step with compared to my own bench press. I also agree with Agent X's take and the example given by K.A. Overconfidence is the weakness that usually does in all uber nasty bad guys in the end. On the point of Spidey's XP gain are we taking into account his other titles and crossovers or not?
  5. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord Hi again, Okay I wish to avail myself of the assembled knowledge of the thread contributers...and ask the following. (I have yet to invest in the back issue so I could read and research on my own....so now I am being lazy.) At the time of the incident, why was Firelord on Earth? Was he still an active Herald of Galactus at the time? Does Galactus share as much of the power cosmic with his Herald as he once had? Is it plausible that he cannot afford to use his full power in the Earth Atmosphere because it could be harmful to the non supers in the area. (Dangerous Side Effects at certain powerlevels perhaps.) If we are considering mechanics, (and some of us have speculated on this before...) How much damage is Spidey Throwing in a given punch? Lastly, who are other very powerful characters who have been caught off guard by weaker opponents? (who is the higher point total character, Firelord or Spidey..... I mean honestly... we recognize the powerlevel restraints and how one is a regular Super and the other is Cosmic but what would their point totals be?)
  6. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord My BAD!!! I just wanted to know if Spidey still had the alien costume when he fought Firelord. I got my answers and did my research and I am cool with it all. The Bat/Cap tangent has also been amusing and very informative. I have come to a conclusion about Batman though... he seems to be the only character that has been written and evolved and retconned and epitomized the way a very creative powergamer would, if he/she also had a flare for the dramatic and an unerring talent for outwitting his/her GM/editor.
  7. Re: Silly Challenge Wasn't Alfred Pennyworth MI-5 or MI-6 or some such. I thought I remembered hearing that he had been involved in espionage before he came to work for the Waynes. (My understanding of DCU details are poor and often outdated and conflicted.)
  8. Re: Silly Challenge I chose Rick he did seem to know everybody and he had been witness to some of the most insane happenings in the Marvel Universe. I think I was reading the Atlantis Attacks storline and remember seeing something about his being used by Moondragon to amplify a psionic attack. I did some research, hung around the comic shop and had someone explain about his merging with Captain Mar Vel (it is two words right?) I think I had a grasp on the Nega Bands and I remember wondering/speculating about what would happen if Rick got hold of those again. So I had him 'borrow' a Quinjet hop skip and jump out to one of the moons of Saturn (or was it Saturn). (As I understood it, the Nega Bands were buried with Mar Vel and I had Rick dig up the Nega Bands and put them on....This wild flight of fancy is happening circa 1990-1991 as I recall... he went after another "Marvel Artifact" before he went after Juggernauts Cytorak Gem...which at the time I believe had been hurled into space.... I think I am gonna have to find the story timeline.) I always enjoyed lil ole very experienced Rick Jones occassionally demonstrating his very exceptional training (usually only among other thug normals) and how he would make off hand comments about being trained by Captain America in the process. It always left an impression on me.
  9. Re: Giant Character Help Okay I rolled an 18 on my communication skill roll It was impairative to the player that he be able to Grow, stretch, Fly and what have you all at the same time (making sure I left shrink and grow out of the same list) I agree my first response to the character concept was Multipower but he wanted an EC so he could access everything at the same time .... some how out of this I had a logic for multiform...and yeah I knew I was using a mechanic in a pretty petty way. I like the idea of him flying while huge...it is funny to me and useful...and stretching and even going desolid... sure. He has the option of a rewrite at some penalties as per the campaign rules (he has two options open for rewrites) I will probably tell him to focus his concept down and accept the limitations of a multipower.
  10. Re: Silly Challenge yer right... When I said mere human I should have better qualified it. I want someone who was human, not a mutant, someone who at the time had no powers. I think my buddies and I did this challenge right before Rick was marrying Marlo during Peter David's run. A buddy of mine did some interesting things with Eddie Brock (which by our estimation was allowable...Eddie gets the Symbiote has his vendetta against Petey and then goes on to bigger and better things) Probably the most interesting one I remember was someone taking Senator Robert Kelly and turning him into some form of Uber Sentinel!!) Yeah Rick even at that time just seemed to have all the right connections and excuses to get the most improbable things done. Nega bands...cytorak gem...blah blah blah...
  11. I have a new player who is playing "be all you can be" metamorph character. So far he Grows, he increases his density, he shrinks, he goes desolid (allbeit he takes damage), he stretches and he flies. Now were talking a 350 point character and when he came to me with all of this I told him that as far as I could tell you get nothing in the Hero system for free. I told him this because he seemed most excited by the Growth powers. (He was not looking for a combat equation but he is looking for amusing ways to be helpful in and out of combat.) I cautioned that he would be too spread out... good in a bunch of areas but not so great in anyone area. At one point I offered him a compromise of setting up his Giant Form as a Multiform so that he could buy the enhanced run and special attacks (like the one hex swat). As I understand it....buying X amount of levels of Growth do not do squat for your movement even though yes you have a longer stride. I looked at the cost of powers and what he got and it is not factored in and told him this. I am waiting for the blow up and want to hear some comments on my compromise. I want to have some good ideas to present to him when I KNOW this will come up. Thanks in advance for any help.
  12. Okay so I am packing up stuff from the house that I spent my life from age 12 to 24 and I run across a number of my old writings and drawings and character designs and what not. It was quite the pleasant trip down memory lane!! I found a story and writeup under no particular system for a character that was supposed to be the ultimate power in the universe. The catch was you were to take a background/secondary character from the Marvel Universe (we were all Marvel Zombies) and through "plausible" (I use the word loosely) events and circumstances evolve him into the ultimate power in the Multiverse. That would be why I had a story and timeline. I chose Rick Jones who at the time was "merely" human. Who else would have been a good pick and why? I'm curious to see what people would come up with.
  13. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord Hermit, I absolutely agree with everything you wrote. Cap does study and train and he is the guy who is usually keeping the Avenger Files updated. He does a lot of homework on his opponents. He has studied different martial arts and languages. He has been portrayed as being "Mr. Prepared". I suppose that I find that many other Heroes and Villains alike add to their arsenals in more tangible ways. Most every hero worth his salt keeps up his KS: Super Villain research and you are right he does seem to have some knowledge of most every Villain/Hero he runs across. I ran an "homage" to Captain America once under another system and have recreated the Character as an NPC in my current campaign. My take is that the Super Soldier Serum may be refined and altered over time. I also had my "CapWannabe" start using a utility belt (usually for for fairly mundane things such as wire saws, combat knives, supertech High tension wire, some knockout gas, grenades/explosives,) Now from what I have read of the ULTIMATES.... well let's just say I need to track down some TPBs and see what they have done with this reimagined star spangled avenger.
  14. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord So one more question about Bats... how many points to build him .... (Whats your gut instinct on these?) Pre Crisis...? Post Crisis...? Post Zero Hour...? (My group and I were having a debate about all of his skills, talents, contacts, resources and what not?) (I am considering tossing cap into "fix the weakling" thread or maybe just ask the question... what kind of potential has been squandered. It seems that Bruce Wayne has maximized every advantage he can give himself. If new tech comes his way he uses it and he grows and adapts to the growing threats in his universe. What could Cap have become had this approach also been used for him?)
