Re: It seemed like such a good idea...
Smax: http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptionscomic/topten/10smax.htmlPS: Gene Ha has given his "okay" to the character sheets!
that's cool that you got the thumbs up from Gene Ha himself! did you work up any of the other Top Ten characters?

Re: It seemed like such a good idea...
Invulnerability would seem to be fine' date=' but I think that it needs some OTHER power (such as super strength) to back it up. Come to think of it isn't invulnerability most of "Smax" (from "Top 10") power ? [/quote']he's also got strength and energy blasts he shoots from his chest, makinghiim a pretty tough customer

Re: [Need Help] Thors from around the world.
a Trickster-type character would work for any of several of those: Native American mythology has such a character, as do many different African myths, and possibly even Australian aboriginal mythology

Re: DC Suckverse?
I don't think "encourage" is the word. I believe the party line was "write 6 issue arcs". I agree this has a sense of doom - if the comics don't sell, what will end up in TPB's?But obviously people are buying the TPB's, so maybe Marvel would be better off to cut the monthly comics, and just publish 2 TPB's of all-new material once a year instead. You could keep the old numbering and number the TPB's instead of publishing new issues every month.
I was using the word "encourage" in much the same way that a mafioso would...as a euphemism for an order. I should have clarified. But yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I also wish they (meaning both of the big two) could get away from the huge "events" stories they consantly have.....identity crisis, straight into infinite crisis for DC, and the whole avengers disassembled to house of m debacle for marvel

Re: DC Suckverse?
I can't recall the author' date=' but I recall one comics [writer? editor? publisher?'] publishing a reply to comments by [iIRC Marvel] readers that the comics publisher cannot win. If they publish something people don't like, they're "letting down the fans". if they publish something people do like, then they're "just pursuing the almighty dollar".It's called capitalism. If you don't like it, you don't buy it and they stop making it. If you do like it, you buy it and they keep making it. Unless, of course, "you" and "the majority" disagree as to liking whatever the product is. Think of it as "dollar democracy".
And for all who denigrate the comics industry because their workers want to earn a decent living, and their employers want to make a profit, please tell us what business you work in that has such different goals and objectives.
[is it my imagination, or is this fast becoming an NGD thread?]
I actually had basically this same conversation with a friend of mine a few days ago....talking about how far downhill Marvel (as a whole) has gone quality-wise since Quesada took over. I remember reading an article about him where he supposedly encouraged his writers to write stories of a certain length that woudl be easily republishable as TPB's, i.e. pursuing the dollar OVER quality of writing. It seems to me if they would just concentrated on getting the best writers to do some of their best work with the best characters in the comics industry, the money issue would take care of itself.
That's just my opinion: quality product leads to profit

Re: Best of the Bronze Age?
Oh' date=' I know. you and SS have been pushing it pretty hard, and he's my favorite character, but I haven't been to a comic book store in a long time so I haven't picked it up yet. That phrase just stuck out to me [/quote']it was right up there with my favorite comic book title of all time: "Giant Size Man Thing"

Re: Marvel's Best "Bricks"
Magneto?!??!?!I thought this was odd too, until I read his listing on the marvel directory, where it says that using his magnetic powers, he can increase his strength to class 100.....which seems like an unfair way to judge his strength if you ask me, since technically it would be his magnetism doing the lifting, not his muscle.

Re: Character Cover Sheet
this is one of the best character questionnaires I've seen yet, because it addresses (at the same time) who the character really is AND how the player wants to play them. I'm sure I'll be using this in the future.

Re: Monster Hunter Campaign?
I'd love to see it as well, if you dont mind

Re: Ridiculous things in comics that you don't mind.
I always loved the excuse not to unmask their opponents as "it might be booby trapped." Just what kind of a trap are you going to put right next to your face? I picture an explosive device of some sort..what comics have you been reading???? I've never seen this.
I can remember tons of foiled attempts to unmask characters though, and a few successful ones.

Re: The Character Idea Thread
I've got an idea for a character that I'm thinking would be alien in origin (because it's the easiest way to explain his form). He's basically a big pile of sludge (although he can approximate human form when he wants to). I've been thinking of having as his powers, other than the ability to ooze over, around, and under surfaces, the ability to eat through any substance at will (that's how he gains sustenance), and possibly the ability to expand in a way to take up more space, but not more mass. I call him Tar Baby.

Re: Vic Mackey?
Farmington (or the Farmington District, maybe) is the name of the area he works.
and I'd say after watching this season's premiere that he's officially HUNTED rather than jsut watched by internal affairs!
-
I looked very briefly and didn't see one, but has anyone done a write-up of Vic Mackey from the Shield as a Dark Champions character?

Re: [Campaign] Third Eye Investigations
this sounds like a REALLy fun campaign

Re: please help a newbie
Scads of ways. For starters you should probably check out the Power' date=' "Enhanced Senses." Numerous options, very customizable.[/quote']show off!

Re: please help a newbie
dont worry. I have no illusions that my character will be as efficient a killer as them from the get-go.....that's just the mold I'm going for.
Does the HERO system provide a way to build in the superhuman senses? I imagine it does, but like I mentioned earlier, I havent' had a chance to look through the book yet

Re: please help a newbie
I had thought about that, but wasn't sure if I wanted him to have a "healing factor" or not. One idea I was seriously considering is trying to work in a Longshot-style "luck aura" in, but I have no idea how that would work

Re: please help a newbie
again - Welcome aboard, Have some Newbie Rep!I don't have the details to add to previous posts, but all that I'll say is...
Good Luck - Please remember that what goes on in these threads,
doesn't have to stay in these threads!
oh good, I was beginning to worry this place might be the Vegas of the internet!

Re: What was your first character like?
I WAS asking about everyone's first Champions character, but these responses are so fun to read, I didn't want to correct anyone
-
I'm a new player (so new that I haven't played yet...our first game is going to be sometime in the next couple weeks), and was just curious while reading some of the threads from the more experienced players as to what your first characters wer like: powers, personality, background, weaknesses, level of success....that sort of thing.
Anybody want to share?
ps. I apologize in advance if there's another thread floating around like this. I looked and didn't see one.

Re: please help a newbie
thanks a lot. I gotta say, the more I read on this board, the more into trying this game I am, even with all the confusing abbreviations

Re: Costume fixation (Get your mind out of the gutter)
I"m quite partial to costumes that included trenchcoats. Gambit's original blue, black, and purple costume (and even his days in the yellow and blue X-Men uniform) are great examples

Re: please help a newbie
I haven't had a chance to thoroughly absorb the rules yet (our soon-to-be GM is the only one of us who has a rulebook at this point) so some of the abbreviations and finer points of rules and ability selections are still over my head

Re: please help a newbie
that's kind of how I'd like to play him.....he doesn't always make the smartest decisions, but he's sure as heck never intimidated
