  1. Re: Unwanted advances

PhaseKitty is bisexual (tho' preference for gals), so this wouldn't be a problem on that level. Now, personalities is another can o' worms.

Tho' She-Bulks' muscles on top of the muscles on her muscles might kinda scare PhaseKitty. :fear:

  2. Re: Languages of Tursh -Long Post-

Ok, so it is very slow at work today. Here are the language breakdowns.

There are 11 Language Families that are more or less commonly known within the Kingdom of Tursh. These are listed below.

Each of those are different enough that they do not confer any bonus to learn each other. Within each of those Families there are sub-groupings of languages (forgive my lack of knowledge of the correct scientific terms here) that are similar enough to each other to warrant bonuses.

The Amo family is the predominant language group in Tursh and will be the focus of this post. Within this family are the following groupings.

    Group 1

    Group 2

    Group 3

    Group 4

Learning a language in one group gives you a small bonus to learning another language in a different group. From this point on it gets very complicated, so I'll describe the rest in narrative rather than rules format.

Amo is the parent 'human' language of which, Igardian is a direct descendant.

Igardian is the language of the founding culture of Tursh. It is predominantly spoken in the eastern duchies and is considered the native tongue of the Kingdom.

Bluetongue is the language of Academia, Nobility and more recently the Church of Asuna. It is considered to be the formal and original version of Igardian.

Highlander is the most common language spoken west of the Plague Wall and is a combination of the various tribal dialects of pre-kingdom times.

Swampspeak is a local dialect of Highlander that is used around the region of the Water Wood.

Rivertongue is used primarily by the rivertraders of the Gaver and has become the native tongue of many of the towns and villages along that rivers length. It combines Highlander, Swampspeak and Aigulf.

Mariner is the dialect spoken by sailors on the Muftharz as well as most of the dockside residents of any of the eastern cities. It combines Igardian and Boglar, primarily with many nautical terms and bits and pieces of other foreign tongues.

Gibberish is spoken primarily along the Queensreach and is the common language of western Dirissland. It combines Igardian with the native Cadic.

Gutterspeak is an urban slang derived from Mariner and Gibberish. It is used by those in the poorer sections of large cities and is used as a form of coded language among urban thieves and smugglers.

Atharan is a part of the Tarvic family, but is a combination of Tarvic and Amo.

One other language comes out of the Ennas Commonwealth and is such a hodge-podge of so many different languages that it has been placed in its own Family. The language is commonly known as Slave Pidgin and has developed over the centuries by the slave population of Ennas and has even become the unofficial primary language in many areas of the Malgit.

And this is how it looks in my MasterTemplate for HD

    Whoa!

Here I thought HârnWorld was complicated with its languages!

  4. Re: END-using powers & perceptable F/X

5ER doesn't differentiate between Power and Origin Of Power. In fact it sates you need to be able to locate the Origin of the Power clearly - which to me says "Three Sense Group Rule" right there, part of the perception is the Origin doing something obvious to a Sensory Group.

The gun makes the bang, the bullet makes the hole.

Oh, another cheap dodge by Mr. Long. Don't fix the rule, patch it over. :tonguewav

  5. Re: Language?

Thanks for the input my fellow heroes!

As to Myrran, yeah, it's a language devised by a crazy/evil/chaotic goddess of self absorbtion. Basically it is a very difficult language to learn and use so while the country that nominally worships her would never actually adopt it as a language, her church slowly started to adopt it for secrecy and code.

Oy! Strange, but I guess it'll do. ;)

Oh, and Lucius's method is OK if you don't have many languages. Once you get above a dozen or two I think it'd be kinda unwieldy. Also it wouldn't show the language families, which some folx like to see. ;)

  6. Re: Language?

BTW, it's called similarity not familiarity well in the book anyway. :)

Tradespeak isn't going to chart up right. :( Unless you put a less-"tight" group inside a more-"tight" group.

Myrran is -2 familiarity?   That means it costs 3 CP more than usual?   OUCH! Ain't nobody gonna learn it.

  7. Re: END-using powers & perceptable F/X

Darkness must be perceivable - the default is you can see something impairing your vision (especially important for those who are outside the field).

For example I have a character with a Darkness: Sight Group whose Darkness Field is a big ball of very very bright light. You can very much see that ball of light, but you can't see anything inside it or if you're in it, anything outside it.

 So what are the other two SG's it can be perceived with, and why?

Invisibility BTW' date=' is one of the powers that costs END and may not be perceivable - especially if you buy it for multiple sense groups. This is the exception.[/quote']

 Where's it say that?:confused: Page # and all that. Oh and in 5th ed. not refred beans please cause I don't got that. I don't find it in 5th ed. cause I just reread the whole bit under "Invisibility". Makes sense yeah but it's not written down AFAIK.

Oh, and you got any house-rules related to the subject? :)

    25kivd2.gif

  8. So I'm perusing, found this thread.

Leads me to another Q I've had long time; one not really fitting in that thread. From back in 4th ed., and same in 5th, the Rules say a Power that starts off costing END (even if dropped to 0 END) has to be perceivable by three Sense Groups, unless the Rules for that specific Power say otherwise. Thing is, no Power says otherwise.

Odd, cause some Powers really oughta. Darkness eg is silly if it's perceivable by three SG's when it's Dark to one. So like my Sphere Of Inky Night blocks Sight---and also buzzes and stinks. Silly, really.

Worst tho' is Images. I buy one SG, and get two others for free? Or all Images to Sight (w/o IPE) buzz/stink/tickle/cause interference/give psychics headaches (chose two)? Silly IMNEHO.

So my Q is: does anyone House Rule certain END-using Powers don't do the 3-SG thing?

And does anyone else think it's really weird the Rules say "unless exceptioned" and then have no exceptions?

  9. Re: Alternate Earth Characters #12

    Alternate Earth Characters #12

Your GM has announced he's going to run an alternate Earth game and he wants you to make a modified version of your character to fit his "Alternate Earth Setting. The GM is being deliberately unclear about whether you'll be playing your alt character or if your regular character will be facing them.

Time to pitch the table and walk. Make a new character and not tell me if I'm playing it? Unacceptable.

But my GM wouldn't do that, so no problemo. ;)

So what is different about your character from

    Cave Earth

It's a world where shamanism is the most advanced form of magic and technology is limited to herbs and machines lashed together out of sticks and vines. Neanderthal and Pre-Humans battle for supremacy when they aren't being terrorized by dinosaurs and hairy mammals with overbites. The Glaciers are coming and the world needs some heroes. How does your character appear?

Need long talk with GM about "what is shamanism, how does it work, what can it do." W/o that info, I can't do the charrie.

  10. Re: I'm going to make a big noise...BOOM!

Your character has ticked off a mad scientist (Who knows why, these guys have short fuses) and ends up getting hit by an odd ray. There is a tingling sensation, not a pleasant one, through out your nerves, and the Mad Scientist announces that the city that idealizes you will grow to hate you... for he has turned you into a living bomb. In ten minutes, you will explode with enough force to take out ten square blocks! Oh, and you'll be dead too. The scientist laughs manically, and bites down hard on something, a poison capsule in his denture work (How cliche') trying to kill himself before you can question him for a 'cure.

You begin to glow. If this is a bluff, it's a good one. What Would Your Character Do?

Ya know, I don't know how PhaseKitty would be fighting this guy w/o the rest of the team. People on the team could stop this easy.

But that kinda kills the WWYCD, don't it? :snicker: So I pretend she's alone.

First she calls HQ and reports everything. Then she grabs the baddie (he might be bluffing the dead bit). Then she starts hopping the planes (we don't call 'em dimensions), looking for one where the planar constant say she can't blow up, but where they allow her to live.

Then find a plane where the bad guy either isn't dying, or can be brought back to life.

Then it's "home again, home again, jiggedy jig". :D

PhaseKitty -- "You can't fool me; there ain't no Sanity Clause!" She'd just shrug and chuckle---and be grateful for something light-hearted cause right now things are tense and unpleasant.

What would she get? I'm not sure. Something sexy to wear? A video game? Errrr..... I don't know. Guess it would be a surprise.:thumbup:

  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Wow! Thats a man-sized helping of DERRRRRRRR! :D

Here are some quotes from this weeks Mythic Greece Fantasy game:

    -------------

Hekai'thetas(OOC): Lets see....my Araya'mesit (Egyptian) wizard character has a 14 Strength, so he could easily help with the rowing.....But hes above that kind of menial labor, so he wont

    -----------

GM: The guard can see that you are adventurers. And looking at Prince Talion and Hekai'thetas, youre obviously wealthy adventurers.

Nyssa (OOC): So an extra "point vee" appears on all the prices in town?

    ---------------

Nyssa (OOC): Yeahhhhh. We're gonna need those TPS tablets....Super.

    -------------

Pelepellonia (OOC): After a banquet like THAT, they can just roll me out like Violet Beauregard!

    -----------

Pelepellonia (OOC) As we travel, Ill make daisy chains along the way :)

Selene (OOC): I didnt know it was THAT kind of adventure!

Akanos (OOC): [Dad] DONT make me turn this adventure around! [/Dad]

    ---------------

[An Ashurite battle commander moves into view, flanked by his wizard, 25 skirmishers, 40 Ashurite sailors, and 6 members of the legendary "Eternals" Blood-Guard, perparing to advance on the party]

Ashurite Commander: *Opens his mouth to speak*

    Akanos: LOST??

    -----------------

[Kydri and Selene are behind the shield wall formed by 6 Achean soldiers that are part of Talion's house guard, facing the Ashurites]

Selene: You dont have to stay here next to me.

Kydriamennri: Im not going to charge them all by myself! ;)

Selene: Well...Im not charging them WITH you! ;D

    ----------------------

Ashurite Commander: Come now, Akanos. I know of your reputation. You would not BE here if you did not know what was at stake. Dont play coy with me.

Nyssa the Centaur: I have seen Akanos angry, hungry, drunk, and horny. But I have never seen him be "coy"!

    --------------------

[in the parley, the young, arrogant Ashurite noble spills the beans as to why he and his men are in Acheos, because he has assumed that Akanos, legendary warrior, would not be here for any other reason than to stop him.

Hes wrong. They were just in the neighborhood.

The Christopher Lee-like Wizard has just figured this out]

Ashurite Wizard: Inept fool! Youve told them everything! They were obviously ignorant of our purpose here before you opened your fool mouth!

Ashurite Prince: You cannot talk to ME that way!

    Ashurite Wizard: I just DID!

Nyssa: How long do you think theyve been married?

    ----------------

    GM: If he dies...

    Akanos (OOC): Do not pass

Nyssa (OOC): Do not collect 200 drachmas...

    ----------------

Selene (OOC): I spend this whole Phase maintaining bladder control.:help:

    ---------------

    (Late addition)

Akanos: *wades into combat with his twenty-one foot long cold iron spear*

    Five Ashurite Skirmishers: *die*

Akanos: Obviously, you forgot WHO YOU WERE DEALING WITH!

Ashurite Wizard: I didnt. *Points at Ashurite Noble*. HE did.

Who'd a thunk ancient Greece cold be so much fun? I laughed my socks off!

  13. Re: WWYCD: Felononius Feline

So your character has stumbled across a cat burglar doing what cat burglars do. Having a sense of self-preservation, said burglar tosses the loot and runs, showing very little inclination for a fight. If you don't catch the loot, it's going to hit the ground 8 stories below, most of it's value lost in the process. If you don't catch the burglar, the burglar will probably get away (omniscient characters who can not be eluded need not apply). What does your character care more about?

Oh...and does it make a difference if your character finds the thief to be very hot?

Stuff is just stuff it can be replaced. Chase the baddy no question.

If she's hot that makes catching her more fun. :eg:

  14. Re: For the Adam West Hold Outs

For the truly (obsessively?) dedicated fan, according to a recent Car and Driver magazine (July 07), there is at least one company that will build you a BatMobile. They are based on 70's Lincolns and the cost goes up with how accurate you want to get. They start at about $90K, and climb quickly as you want more of the BatToys.

    http://www.caranddriver.com/features/13107/batmobile.html

    C/D TEST RESULTS:

Zero to 60 mph: 13.9 sec

Street start, 5–60 mph: 12.9 sec

    Standing ¼-mile: 19.5 sec @ 70 mph

    Braking, 70–0 mph: 415 ft

    Holy Limping Lumps, Batman!

  15. Re: Single Green Superhero seeks.... (personels for your characters)

PhaseKitty has no trouble getting "companions," but if that ever changed...

Single white (rainbow colored when using my powers) human-with-cat-type-features lesbian seeks females for fun and games; they don't all have to be sexual, but you do have to be uninhibited. Loves cute stuff, little animals, being light hearted and silly, and whomping evil. Oh, and hot wild sensuous "frolicking". I can show you places you've never dreamed of! Should be non-smoker, light/non-drinker, not allergic to fur, not hurt/sickened/upset by interdimensional travel, and have a lot of stamina if you know what I mean wink-wink-nudge-nudge. Stuffy people, emos, and anime fans need not apply.

  16. Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam!

The infamous band of anti-heroes (literary term), The Flyers. Known, among other things, for "code names" that have nothing to do with their powers:

Slippery: Song/voice powers. Has gone one-to-one with Howler and made her look like a joke.

Singer: The brain of the group. Gadgeteer and propagandist.

Enormous: Speedster, better known for his dexterity and accuracy than his speed (which is not quite up to the level of most speedster supers, but is fast enough). He's of average size dispite the name.

Dwarf: Ordinary sized and completely human. Emotion controller. Romantic and a bit of a lady's man.

Hopper: One of two bricks in the group. The stand-and-take it one that sets up for the other brick. Can't jump any more than an elephant can. Has a bit of a split-personality problem

Pretty Boy: Ugly as a box of rocks, which he resembles. A bit faster than Hopper, he's usually hammer to anvil.

As well as the name, everyone remembers their vehicle. ;)

  17. Re: WWYD: Those Who Cannot Remember The Past

One day in your home' date=' where you have lived for however long you've lived at you current residence, you accidentally discover a hidden door.[/quote']

"Hi! Your name is Alice and here's your rabbit hole." :tonguewav

On the other side is a hidden closet / secret laboratory.

Yep, defanately down the rabbit hole. Cause it don't have room in the real world.

There is no dust or decay, it does not appear to be abandoned. You find a super suit that you would swear you have never seen before, yet which fits you perfectly. There is a journal or notebook in what appears to be your handwriting,

So that's why my carpal tunnel hasn't gotten better; too much writing!

with cryptic references to powers and abilities you don't remember having, used to stop crime or assist in natural disasters, which you don't remember doing. Experimentation shows you do, indeed, have any powers mentioned in the journal (assume the same powers as your favorite / most freqently played character, with different Sx as necessary).

To halibut with the powers, I want the physique! :eg:

Searched for super heros, paranormal abilities, or related terms on the net result in a lot of broken links.

Heck, searching the net for ANYTHING gives a pile of broken links. Nothing surprising about this.

Going to the library or otherwise looking for hard copies is -- interesting. Magazines and newspapers more than two weeks old spoke of metahumans as if they were real,

OK time to get fitted for a hug-myself coat. I'm obviously hallucinating everything. The universe can not possibly run on whim; which's what happens in a comicbook world. There must be laws of nature, that can't be ignored.

So, if I think I'm reading that metas are/were real, I'm reading what ain't there, so I'm nuts, so I'd better commit myself while I still have some shreds of sanity left.

And that kills off the rest of the WWYD. Sorry, but there's the voice of reality speaking. Happens to the best of us.

  18. Re: 5th Edition Champions Art you liked!

Goin' way way back. I really the lawyer/paralegal/??? on page 357 of the rulebook ("CHANGING THE RULES" for those with v5.5). So demure but so WOW!

I liked the interlace stuff in Tuala Morn. Most the art there was good, except the donkey-eared elves. I really like the pic on page 185---the priestess doing the sacrifice. Very powerful image!

The cover of Fantasy Hero gets a big thumbsup for showing two powerful women. Page 376 gets a bigger one for showing FIVE!

The cover of C.U. is kinda cute for having a buncha "who are they"'s. Only, who are they? Oh, and we don't havta look at Saff's bony butt. ;)
