  1. Re: WWYCD: Collected

With Olorin, it would depend. If for some reason his contingency spell failed and he actually got trapped (Most of the time if knocked out he t-ports to the base infirmary - it's not foolproof though.) he would t-port out, dimension walk out, time travel out, burst out, whatever it took, and free the heroes. Then he would try to figure out why. Maybe these heroes are needed for an extreme bad guy. Lying to Olorin would be problematic (mind reading for truth) He'd deal with the situation appropriately given the reason.

  2. Re: WWCYD: Lethal Force is Authorized

Let's see... cities razed' date=' millions dead, want slaves, total surrender, wants resources. Dialog is not an option. Do we need to kill them all? Nope. And how would you "Beat them badly enough" without killing at least some? [/i']

The JLA and Avengers seem to do it all the time but of course some of those stories are from times when the "Do not kill" clause is rigorously enforced.

Captured their soldiers, smash their war machines, destroy their weapons- that would probably qualify as "beating them badly enough."

Hopefully this would be enough, but I doubt it -"bloody noses" probably would be required. As to your example - you said it yourself JLA and Avengers. Golden or silver age. For there, your'e correct. But given cities razed and millions dead, doen't sound too golden age and is pushing silver age. Also the things people said they would do besides kill is good. They are correct, it is a valid response and will up the cost. If you will not kill, this is what you should do. If you keep it comic book, very valid. But - name me where in the real world where invader/conquerers that killed massively on purpose were ever turned back without at least some deaths on their part, intended or not? I was answering for my campaign where it is real world with supers. - silver to iron. If I had these invaders, you would have to kill some, even if you were not meaning to. You would have to destroy ships, and unless you had interesting powers, the beings in them would die. (And haven't the JLA and Avengers accidently killed? They regret it, but know that was not their intent. Also give me these heroes, with their power and death might not be necessary.) For my heroes, if they did not at least occasionaly kill, the death toll in humans would rise compared to a brutal response as it would take longer to get to an unacceptable cost for the aliens. The aliens would also probably respond to a smaller attack with retribution. That is what I meant by it is them or us. (sorry for the long post, but I wanted to explain my response. I guess my assumptions were different.)

  3. Re: WWCYD: Lethal Force is Authorized

Interesting responses so far, thank you.

"Volt Has a reluctance to killing - but they started it and only death will stop it - ours or theirs. He would kill, but with some regret. Dialog is not an option according to their own words."

    3. It should be noted that killing all the aliens isn't the only option here, it's just that they aren't accepting less than total surrender for the purposes of enslaving humanity. Beat them badly enough and you can make them retreat and perhaps covince them that Earth is too tough. Of course, taking off the kid gloves, slaughtering some aliens, and going all total war might be one of the easier ways to accomplish this goal.

Let's see... cities razed, millions dead, want slaves, total surrender, wants resources. Dialog is not an option. Do we need to kill them all? Nope. And how would you "Beat them badly enough" without killing at least some? Unless they are only in for the profit and you drain their profit. Oddly enough, a forceful enough response that includes killing some of them may result in less total deaths; ours and theirs. After all, death is not profitable (unless you are killing beings they want dead - what an interesting thought.)

  4. Re: WWCYD: Lethal Force is Authorized

Olorin-He's a blasted medieval! At last he gets to kill anything he wants with government approval, but knowing him, call it total war once the first civillian gets killed and go off every alien in sight, government approval or not. He only does not kill because he would be considered a villain. Otherwise all killer supervillains he could kill once defeated, he would - and leave body parts behind as a warning! (and maybe carry the head around until it's unrecognizable as further warning!:eg:)

Black Tiger Was in the military and would consider this war, declared or not. I'm not sure of the exact quote by General Patton, but believe it goes: "You do not win a war by dying for your country. You win it by making the other poor bastard die for his country." He would act according to this quote.

Volt Has a reluctance to killing - but they started it and only death will stop it - ours or theirs. He would kill, but with some regret. Dialog is not an option according to their own words.

  5. Re: WSWYCK: Karaoke Night

Dreging up some old characters, both mine and others...

Blade - a knife wielder - "Mack the Knife". He almost considered it his theme song anyway.

Bug - He went everywhere humming the theme from the TV Spider-Man anyway, so he'd sing it.

Leadman - a "gloom and doom" brick who still tries anyway. His team members think the "Gloom and despair" song from TV's Hee-Haw is his theme song anyway so he'd sing it. - Just the chorus, which for those who don't know goes "Gloom, despair and agony on me. (moan) Deep dark depression excessive misery (moan) If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all (moan) Gloom, despair and agony on me (weeping and moaning)"

Futurian Would do the "Imperial Death March" from Star Wars, since that is his signature everywhere he goes. If told it had to have words, he'd make some up. If told the song had to have lyrics, he'd do something from home - 3257 years in the future (No he can't go back)

  6. Re: WWYCD: The Jack-In-Th-Box Senerio

Olorin would t-port it somewhere safe (Antartica would be a candidate). and go to watch it (from a distance).

Volt would clear the area and wrap it in a force wall - which always knock him out. Someone else would have to deal with it or wait till he recovers.

Black Tiger would go "Where's Olorin?", try to clear the area and stay away from it. He's a martial artist with no disarming capabiltites - he does have deduction, thus may be able to find out who did it if not obvious.

  7. Re: WSWYCK: Karaoke Night

Olorin, the mad mage "We're off to see the wizard" from wizard of Oz. He loves the movie and thinks the "Pay no attention to the man behind th curtain." line is a hoot.

Black Tiger - "Eye of the tiger" from the Rocky movies.

Volt First, he would suprise quite a few people - He's quite a good singer - esp. when harmonizing. If in a patriotic mood he'd do "Star Spangled Banner", which quite hard to sing well. If in a silly mood (rare) he'd do "Your red scarf matches your eyes" in a Rudy Valley (Spelling) voice. Probably would do "Can't help falling in love with you" by Elvis. He would not need the words for any of these either- or the music. He's quite comfortable singing a capella.

  8. Re: WWYCD: Washington, D.C. is no more.

Oh crud! Olorin has the ability to go back in time and fix it, but is always relutant to do so. He'd probably "go medieval" - since he is a medieval mage (and a Celt at that). It would be "payback time" to whoever is responsible. There would be more than one smoldering crater once he is done- and those would be the clean deaths. Killing innocents (although there are some that say anyone in DC is not an innocent:rolleyes:) would infuriate him. It would be hard for anyone to reason with him. Even if he went back in time his way to stop it would be to forcefully, bloodly and with fury deal with (Kill, and painfully at that) everyone in the process up to and including the top planner.

Volt would try to help with the chaos and try to find who "who done it". If an individual, put him away. If a nation, he'd agitate for war and invovle himself in it.

  9. Re: Sanctuary.....Anyone Use It ?

I have used it in the past to have a place for starting "necessary" alliances between normally hostile groups. For both good and bad reasons. Seeing Doctor Destroyer play chess (and lose) to a medieval mage is quite satisfying. In ny current campaign, it exists, but is not well known or attended - yet.

  10. Re: Prison facilities for super-human criminals in your Campaigns?

My campaign basically has Stronghold as is. No mass breakouts and few indiviual breakouts. However... It is basically full, and controversally so. At the begining, out of the country villains were taken in for the money. Now, they can't get rid of them because A) They need the money, the prison was not allotted enough. B) If some of the international villains were transferred out, they'd basically be freed, there is nowhere else to put them. This actually could result in international incidents.

Most people don't realize this, and thus oppose expansion and building another. And, of course, there is the NIMBY syndrome (Not In My BackYard). They are looking into a space prison to solve that, but the cost goes up.

  11. Re: WWYCD: Red Garden

Olorin - "Fireball!!" - no really, he can see magic and would gas the baddie if they were too close. He would use the fireball if they were far enough away. He would not have to get too close so being blocked would not apply - also he can fly and t-port if need be. He'd be intrigued with the girls, and give advice. He could end up being a knowledge contact for them - or vice versa.

Volt - Zap! Lightning form the sky (him). Then he'd figure out what's going on. He's fairly well known, and they would know who he was.

  12. Re: WWYCD: Ultimate Villian: Planet Earth!

Olorin would try talking to the planet - if he could. This would probaly be in the category of "yeah he can do it but it'll take 3-6 months." Sigh. Can someone else deal with the planet's temper tantrum while I try to figure out how to talk with it?

  13. Re: WWYCD: To Bee or not to Bee?

Olorin has no secret id - but he'd "borrow" the item, magically "bug" and kick rear once he could. If the whatzit was a hero focus, he could temporarily probably immitate most if not all of the focus's power - that he knows of.

Volt would go to Olorin. If not available - He'd notify the people his secret id was protecting. And try to have someone else bug the whatzit. He'd steal if he had to, but try to borrow.

  14. Re: WWYCD: A Bomb for Two Cities

Volt, if he were alone would wrap a force wall around one after radioing NYC heroes what was going on. This would knock him out, (side effect) but the wall would stand. Some how the whole thing would have to be moved or desroyed at once. It is all he could do.

Olorin would t-port the whole thing into an active volcano (!) If he's seen a place or can see a place, he can t-port himself or other objects there. If Volt were around, he'd have him radio NYC and hope. However... If the media had coverage of the bomb in NYC and he saw it - poof! Off to NYC, t-port the bomb, accept the accalades - and face a long fly home unless someone gave him a ride. He can fly, but not fast over long distances, and typically only can do 3 t-ports per senario.(Several hours)

  15. Re: WWYCD: So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish...

Olorin: "Leave me alone! Leave me alone! By the gods, first I exhange with Doctor Destroyer, then I have to be a woman, then I had to find out who took out Tyranon, now I gotta figure what happened to the dolphins? That's it, I'm going to live in Faerie - it's less weird." Grumble grumble, gripe gripe.

Couldn't help it. Had to be said.

What he really do? Turn it over to the experts and detectives. He can't do everything.

  16. Re: WWYCD: The Destruction Of The Conqueror

Olorin might be able to trace where the attack came from and go there to find out what gives - however - good ol' dectective work would occur first and that would mean Black Tiger would get to shine. Depending on what gives Olorin would either A: Find the entity and thank him, set up diplomacy etc. or B: Go "Yee-stak hru!" (his favorite curse in his own language. - don't ask) and try to set up defenses - a warning perimeter in particular. He'd really like to get back to his home dimension (can't get there right now), pick up weapons - and allies, including some gods (Read very high level power beings - propbably each not being quite as powerful as the baddie, but numbers help.) Sigh. Being a powerful mage is not what it's cracked up to be.

  17. Re: WWYCD?: Champions Universe Zombies

My characters would accept the help and try to get back - eventually. Olorin, my mad mage may be able to get back himself - depends on the Gm. We would try to "cure" the heros and maybe the world. Neither would be easy, even with Olorins large variable power pool. This would be in the catagory of "This would take a bigtime wish, which is outside his purvue." He'd try though to fix it though, esp. if he can go home on his own. And oh, we'd watch the villain closely, to see if he is good here or just desparate. Siding with him even as a villain? Greater good and all that.

  18. Re: The Mind Controlling Hero

I have a new player with a new character in a very short term game (about 4 sessions so far) who is almost exclusively a mind controller (some reliable TK). One command: "Be confused!" Normally this means the victim standing around, being confused- "What do I do? What do I do?". Sometimes means doing the wrong thing. Mainly up to the GM and victims pyschs. She is insecure about being a super, period! (Actual disad) Note: most of the ethical dilemmas are not relevent. Interesting character.

Powers are like tools, it is what you do with them that determines villian vs hero.

  19. Re: WWYCD? Women City Savers Only

Olorin, my mad mage could be the mystic mentioned. Being a woman? "Been there, done that, no problem doing that again." And he could be a woman while looking like a man, and help others do the same. Easy solution.

Volt would go "Oh my." and do it even if the disguise could not be done. He has a responsibilty of power issue.

The group has two women, and both would not wait, but one would need assurance, since she has "insecure about being a super" disad. (Needs help figuring out what to do sometimes.) The experienced hero is Volt or Olorin, the rest are fairly new. No blackmail pictures would be taken, and blackmail would not work anyway.

Gem, a female, is in a power suit that hides gender (voice too) and is normally assumed to be male. Not a deep secret, but she likes the mystery. She'd say "Oh crud, the secret's out!")

Black tiger would go "Oh ****!" and do it, disguise or not.

  20. Re: WWYCD: "I Am Doctor Destryoer!"

Olorin, my "mad mage" would, first of all go "Not again!" At 747 years old from a fantasy world he's seen about everything. Just about every power he had would go with him since his is mind based, except for reduced sleep need and eternal youth. He could quickly figure out how to use the armor and such - at a basic level (38 intel) 3-4 month he could figure it all out. Also, he could fake every power the Doctor has - one at a time (Huge variable power pool, but not cosmic - and somewhat limited in hard to explain ways.). He could really mess up the doctors networks. Once he really messed things up, he'd switch back.

Meanwhile, the Doctor would enjoy the non aging, needs little sleep 33 year old biological body. Only mental powers would go along, his armor is on Olorin. He would not know how to use the magic except maybe at basic levels, it went with Olorin. He would have to act fast to preserve his power base and create new armor. He'd be in trouble.

Volt, my energy caster would be in trouble. All his powers would be gone and he'd have to rely on the armor, which he wouldn't know how to use (18 intel). He'd contact Olorin fast to have this remedied. (Remember, Olorin has seen it all, he'd have no problem believing this.) The doctor would have Volt's electrical powers ramped up and a nice (well, at least better in some aspects) 62 year old, pudgy body.

Note the two extremes - one could make the Doctors life difficult, the other would have his life made difficult.

  21. Re: Hero name

Oh! Remember to make the PD & ED ablative! I am sure you can see why. :eg:

    Good point! Ablative it is!

And on an unrelated note - (Smack - ow! Smack - ow! Smack - ow!) There, I hit myself. Evil GM an oxymoron?!?! Evil GM is redundant!!! Is there any other kind of GM? (Yeah, a poor one) Oooh, I'm mean. Seriously, the best GMs I've seen get a bit mean at times - esp. if the game is gritty.

  22. Re: Hero name

Thanks again one and all - The Raptorian won. The player loved it and I like it best. Now back to Barney - Do not give evil GMs ideas. (Is evil GM an oxymoron?) Now I am thinking of a villian named Barney. He goes around in a Barney suit. Mind control vs children aged 3 or less (at least 12D6 - continuous, area effect) [i love you, you love me ] to follow him around. Side effect or uncontrolled link - mind control (at least 10D6) vs adults to hate him (not to kill, just hate) [i hate you, you hate me, let's hang Barney from a tree.] Psych - totally believes he has to wear the suit. He does not. Maybe 2 of the 12D6 may actually be in hero id only (the suit).

"Ok kids, lets rob a bank" "Yea!" "See the man in the uniform? He is not a nice man." "Boo!" "Get really close to Barney and think good thoughts."

The kids would be his pd & ed - with an activation roll of course. I could go on, but see what you did? (This evil gm thanks you!)

  23. Re: Hero name

Thanks for the names one and all. Will keep checking for one that really clicks. As to suggesations, Dino came up and I could'nt get the image of him "yapping" and knocking down Fred out of my head. Barney - Kill him! Kill him! Kill Kill Kill!! - sorry, I hate Barney, he's so annoying. Good name though if I did not hate Barney. The ones I like so far - Chricton (Cute), Jurassic (see previous- I do see him like the velociraptors in the movie, inaccurate or not. So sue me, it's almost a comic book in my campain (Silver to bronze age with whispers of iron)). I like Virisaurus, Throwback and The Raptorian. So far I like The Raptorian the best. I'll bounce it of my players - esp since it is a player charater, not a NPC. Thanks again, and keep 'em coming - for now.
