lol...yeah, I'll admit I'm not a history buff....I just sort of "guesstimated". Besides, it took a bit longer to declare war due to the advent of the superhuman.......yeah, that's the ticket :)

She was mainly just a name but, the idea I had for Calendar Girl was a pin-up model who discovered she had the ability to travel back and forth in time (only up to a minute) when she concentrated _really_ hard.... :)

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :) Yes, "the bat" had an agenda and figured that it would be easier without "supes" in the picture.....(sort of like Ozymandias trying to get rid of Dr. Manhattan) Yes, the Grayscale Effect was the catalyst that created superhuman abilities by allowing humans to tap into different areas of the brain.

Some of the names weren't period enough for my tastes, though. Hardware? Flashpoint? In the Golden Age? They would've been called The Iron Avenger and Fire-ball. 'Aunt Artica' is perfectly appropriate however. [/b]

I agree with you on this point, I was sort of stuck for names though. Hardware was just a gadgeteer, not an armored hero, so Iron Avenger wouldn't have fit that well. I suppose "Gizmo" or "Gyro" would have been more appropriate :) I like Fire-ball and may steal.....er, borrow that one

  4. Just curious as to whether anyone else has "timelined" an upcoming campaign. Inspired by "Champions Universe", I decided to try one for my new game and found that it not only set a tone for the game but, it also set up tons of plot threads.

Here's what I have so far......

Jan 5th, 1935: History Professor/Scientist Dr. Thaddeus Grayscale comes back in time from the year 3050 to make history “more interestingâ€. He injects the Grayscale Device into the earth’s core, thus generating the Grayscale effect*.

May 21st, 1938: Icon makes his first public appearance as he prevents the Brooklyn Bridge from collapsing.

Oct. 30th, 1938: Dr. Thaddeus Grayscale adopts the costumed identity of Hardware and begins fighting crime…and having the time of his life.

Dec. 8th, 1941: World War II begins.

Jan. 18th, 1942: President Roosevelt sends out the call for Icon, and any other “patriotic Americans like him†to help with the war effort in any way they can.

March 12th, 1942: Flashpoint and Aunt Artica foil a Nazi plot to assassinate President Roosevelt.

June 29th, 1942: Talisman I and Count Karlov are called on to help rescue The Elder, the arch-mage of the earth dimension, from the Rune Society. They are successful and The Elder recruits them into The Seven.

July 4th, 1942: President Roosevelt sends Night Ranger, Surge, Calendar Girl, and Flashpoint to gather intelligence on the Nazis. Upon their return, Night Ranger expresses to Roosevelt the need for some sort of “intelligence agencyâ€.

August 25th, 1943: A young businessman named Chambers begins a meteoric rise to the top of the financial world.

Dec. 15th, 1943: The sun god Ra emerges, heralding the return of the old gods.

April 09th, 1943: Though on “the wrong side of the lawâ€, Mr. Big and Songbird break up a cell of Nazi saboteurs.

August 13th, 1944: The Century City Penal Authority, with the help of Icon and Hardware begin work on Purgatory State Correctional Facility, a supers only prison, which is built in the middle of Lake Michigan.

August 6th, 1945: Icon (under government orders) drops the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

May 31st, 1946: The first computer, Eniac, is created.

September, 1949: The House Un-American Activities Committee begins calling in supers to testify on the “Red Menaceâ€, as Nixon calls it. Many heroes go underground or retire.

Feb. 10th, 1950: Night Ranger reveals his identity as William Reed and testifies before the Committee, denouncing Icon as a “communist sympathizerâ€.

March, 25th, 1951: Eniac attains sentience and blacks out half of Colorado. Hardware, Aunt Artica and Flashpoint defeat it. Aunt Artica is killed in the fight.

June 15th, 1952: Eisenhower creates the Central Intelligence Agency and names William Reed as its first head.

July 4th, 1953: The Department of Extranormal Affairs (DEA) is created.

Feb. 27th, 1954: Dr. Macabre debuts, threatening to open up “the mouth of Hellâ€. He is defeated by The Seven.

Sept. 15th, 1956: Mexican masked wrestler, El Espectro, takes on the forces of evil. (CU)

December 24th, 1957: Wan Shu begins gene manipulation experiments while amassing a power base in the East.

August 5th, 1959: Night Dragon and Snap Dragon are born.

May 13th, 1961: The Greek god Poseidon, sick of humans polluting the seas, unleashes the Kraken on California. It’s stopped by an unprecedented teaming of Ra, Vulcan, and Uncle Sam.

Jan. 5th, 1965: Earth is invaded by the Zyzerians. It takes the combined might of all of earth’s heroes and villains to drive them back.

    What I need:

A name for the detective. He's the former sidekick of the Tornado (boxer type ala Wildcat/The Atom I), who went by the name Kid Cyclone. The unrest of the 1968 Democratic Convention caused a rift between the Tornado and Kid Cyclone, which made the sidekick go off on his own "to make the world a better place". I'm thinking Nightwing caught up in the idealism of the late 60's/early 70s. Any suggestions for a code name?

How about "Nightwind" or "Night Ranger"? Unless he's not really the "skulk by night" type...then, maybe go with Cyclone (as has been previously mentioned)

Weird Mystic: Marvel seemed to have a lot of "good men as monsters" characters such as Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, Son of Satan, etc. Looking for something along those lines.

How about "Stonehenge", the living embodiment of the ancient landmark. He looks like a man made of stone, with a British accent, and can sling spells like nobody's business...

A couple of outcasts: Totally open on this one. Mutants, Atlanteans, aliens, what have you...

How about a "mole man" type, from subterranea, or an outcast jungle lord?

    Just a few ideas.... :)

  6. This is no offense to any of you who are on the list but, trust me....you're better off not getting messages!! :) I was on the list for about a month and had to leave due to a few boneheads/trolls always trying to stir things up. I've found much better info here on the boards as well as much better conversation. Just my opinion....YMMV

  7. O.k, I thought of another one.........

When we first started playing 4th ed., some of our group thought that "Find Weakness" told if you had a 'weakness', such as x2 vs. sonics, etc....:))

GM: O.k, the Eradicator is using Find Weakness on Bearcat....(rolls 3d6)......he got an 8, so he knows you have a x2 vs electrical attacks....

    Bearcat's Player: Say what?

*= Before I'm asked who the heck Gidget is, it's an old TV series about a teenage girl (Played by someone in their twenties), and YES it was befoe my time too.

That someone was Sally Field....and, yes, it was before my time too. :)

Yes, that might be a good psychlim for this character.

Where in Cincinnat do you live? I was born there and lived in Westwood until I was almost 13.

Isn't your icon the symbol on the chest of "The Greatest American Hero"?

I acutally live in Northern Ky., about five minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

    Yes, that's ole' Ralph's symbol......it sort of looks like a rune :)

    LOL!! I like that one....

I'm sure if I thought back on the 10+ years I've been playing Champions, I could think of some real doozies but the one the leaps out first is this:

I was playing a solo game where I was going up against a vampire and doing quite well, I might add. All of a sudden the vampire pulls back and begins staring at me. The GM rolls 3d6 and says "O.k, they pass....this creature of the night is looking pretty good to you, if ya know what I mean". (wink, wink)...... Not understanding what he meant, I asked and the gm said that the vampire was using the Seduction skill. I had to remind him that a). I don't think it would work in the middle of a heated combat, B). a skill can't really 'make' someone do something (especially without some sort of ego roll) and c). the vampire was a MAN!!!!, as was my character, and that I/he didn't swing that way!! (..not that there's anything wrong with it...lol) I'll admit he was new to Gm'ing and Champions, but it's still a crack up...at least to me :)

  12. This sort of sounds like Flashback from Omega Flight (in the old Alpha Flight book...), who could pull dupes of himself from different points in the future. In one battle, one of his dupes is killed which causes him to toally flip out. He kept screaming....."I'm going to die...it might be in years, months, hours, or seconds, but I'm going to die!!!". Of course from then on, he was useless..... It might be a good idea for some sort of limitation.......

  13. Hey all, I've been seeing some great artwork on here and especially like the pics of Winterhawk and Acroyear. Does anyone know of any good tutorials (besides the "Everquest: The Animated Adventures" site) that explain how to do "Timmesque" characters using Photoshop 5.0? I knew of one once, but can't find it now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

Thor, I'm sure, is no exception.

So, who's allowed a "God among heroes" concept in their games? Or played one? What points were used, etc? And which gods did you try?

Hmmmm...interesting topic. In a short lived "Wild Talents" game, I played Saint Elmo (from the Alpha Flight special issue) who was "The Arctic Avatar".....a very fun character :)

In the current Champions campaign that I'm running, the gods of old walk the earth again. Ra was the first to emerge in 1938 after the event that was the cause for superpowers

(which I can't go into now....it's a secret!!) weakened the dimensional borders sufficiently enough to travel through. One of the PCs is running "Magma", the son of Vulcan and Aphrodite who has made it his crusade to try to bring back some of that "old time religion" to the people of Century City. He has the standard "energy blast/force field/ flight" combo and a total disregard for "man's law". The guy playing Magma doesn't know alot about mythology, but it's still a fun character all the same....

I'm also introducing some of the Pantheons and have added a Pantheon of the Americas which includes mythological characters such as Paul Bunyan, Uncle Sam and Pecos Bill as well as iconic figures in American history such as George Washington and the "King" himself.....Elvis Presley :)
