  1. Re: Cassandra's Corner

    Here is an example

Centurion confronts Professor Evil during a bank robbery. Instead of firing his death ray at Centurion, Professor Evil fires at one of the load bearing walls, and the roof begins to cave in (Drain to SPD). Centurion now has to hold the roof up so that the innocents in the bank won't be crushed. Professor Evil fires again, this time knocking out a number of innocent people (Entangle), keeping Centurion in place. Then Professor Evil keeps blasting the helpless hero until he passes out.

Some fantastic ideas Cassandra! I've always liked your character profiles.

Question - in the case of the SPD drain deathray, what does it mean when the hero has Power defense 10 then?

  2. Re: A pit.

you need the against or they can jump away

by using "usable against others you can control the direction they have to go

unless they have a power that can counter it(tunneling)

this would be just as if you used flying vs others to hold somebody up so they cannot move unless they have flight

    Beast,

I think you're 100% correct. I re-read the rules for Usable As Attack, and imo, Pit really does describe an event similar to Flight, Usable as Attack, only downwards.

    So...

Tunnelling, Ranged, Usable as Attack essentially will be the way I'm thinking of doing it. Maybe even AE - One Hex as an option.

Someone suggested the Body of Ground was, what's the DEF?

    Thanks

  3. Re: A pit.

Of course, if you followed it up with another Transform that filled up the pit afterwards.... that would be nasty to anyone who didn't have Life Support and/or flight or leap.

  4. Re: A pit.

I like the tunneling idea as well' date=' take on ranged and you can have some fun. With the Transform I thought there was a middle ground between Minor and Major, a 10 point option that would work. It's expensive but once you can break that 32 Body cap regularly there's a lot of room for some fun. Say a 10d6 or 15d6 transform. With the 15d6 transform I think you'd be rolling around 50 body on average so that's 8 hexs deep if my math is right.[/quote']

Thanks! Great idea Certified! I'll have to take a look at the book description of Transform again to get the numbers down (i'm at work hehe).

Wow. 16 Body for ground eh?

  5. Re: A pit.

I guess, the deeper the pit, the more falling damage.

And if it was implemented as an entangle, I can't see how using an energy blast would get you out of it...

  6. Ok I'm looking at either a witch or an earthy based superhero. How would you build the ability to create... a pit? As an attack that is.

    For example.

GeoDude spots villain. He gestures and a pit opens up villain. Villain falls in.

Would it be an entangle? Some type of TK? Tunnelling Ranged?

Obviously flying or superleaping victims can get out easily. Others... not so.

    Thanks!

  7. Re: The Super Darwin Awards

We had a few CoC Darwins actually. The one that sticks out was when we went to a dreamworld and saw a huge figure coming towards us out of the mist. Everyone did the right thing and ran away without looking.... except one character. he decided to stay and see it. He lost a lot of sanity just form seeing it but still did not run. The huge figure reached out to touch him and still he stood there. The GM asked him several times if he wanted to run and he said no every time.

"OK" he said. "the Elder touches you and you go insane". To this day none of us know why he just stood there.

I think Curiousity is the leading cause of Darwin type deaths for PC's...

  8. Re: Silver Age Superman

    Cassandra,

Question - I noticed that you gave Supers a life support - 200 years longevity. How long is he expected to live in comic book canon? He's not immortal is he - just long lived?

    Thanks

  9. Re: Characteristics in an EC

Meh, I certainly don't see anything special in Mongoose to allow for SPD and DEX in the EC. It's just another player using concept to try to bargain for more powers within the point allotment. As the previous poster said, if PC's really want to play that way, so can GM's and NPC's have a lot more points.

  10. Re: Silver Age Superman

    Great work Cassandra!

You could enfeeble Superman even more to save more points. How strong was Silver Age Superman when influenced by Kryptonite? in your build, his base Str is 30, which is still pretty strong when compared to the average human.

  11. Re: The Classic Justice League starting members on 350 points

    Thanks Moonblade, Jmoz and Hyper-man.

Yah - that's kinda what I thought. I had read somewhere that he had a limited nine Lives thing but then he was basically a boxer with no other special powers... except that he was supposedly one of the best hand to hand combatants and was a good teacher.

Hmm... Interesting that there isn't a teaching skill in Champions is there? Perhaps with that ability you could teach someone else the skill...

Otherwise, I guess it would be lots of level to duplicate his expertise in hand to hand combat.

  12. Re: What does a "20 Comeliness" look like to YOU?

    What does 20 Com mean?

I guess it depends all on House Rules.

If the assumption is that Str 20 is the maximum for ALL humans, i.e. Olympic weightlifters, then similarly COM 20 would be the supermodel equivalent.

If Str 20 was the maximum for normal humans, but Legendary humans like Schwarzenegger was Str 30 (at his prime) then I can certainly see legends like Marilyn Monroe with a COM 30.

  13. Re: Where can I find Absorption description?

    Re: Assault

While I can understand that Sidekick is a summary and not designed to undercut Hero System sales, it would have been useful to know what is NOT included in Sidekick before I purchased it - the description was incredibly vague.

Likewise, since I can't seem to find it - I'm assuming that Variable Point Pools are not included in Sidekick either right?

  14. Re: Totally noob question

I was in the same boat about 6 months ago and you could do what I did. I joined a game and wrote up a character using the old rules handed it to the GM who rolled his eyes and handed me the 5ER and told me to read it before coming back. Worked like a charm!

Getting back in after a long lay off lead to some odd looks when I admitted not knowing what Megascale or Millennium City was one moment, but I could recite the vulnerabilities of Classic Enemies the next.

    Good luck and have fun!

Bwahahaha! I loved Classic Enemies... and then there was old Ogre ,Dragonfly and Pulsar from the book...

  15. I'm an old Champions player from the original Champions I version. I haven't played for over a decade but saw it in a local store recently. This is a really really stupid question I realize, but all the books were wrapped so I couldn't open them.

What books do I need to start again?

The Hero System 5th edition book (cost $50)?

Or the Champions book (cost $30)?

From what I've read on the website, I think I need - the Hero System describes the framework, powers, active points and character generation while the Champions book describes more the genre and some sample characters... am I right?

    thanks,
