lemming
If a character is in an entangle and either tries Desolid or Teleportation and for some reason fails, is that the end of the character's phase? I'm assuming because movement is required that a 1/2 phase is nessasary in any case?
0 Steve Long
That depends upon what exactly you mean by "tries" to use a Power such as Desolidification or Teleportation. Normally activating a Power is, of course, a Zero-Phase Action. The concept of "failing" implies something like an Activation Roll or Required Skill Roll; RSR is specifically indicated as a Zero-Phase Action, and while Activation Roll doesn't state that explicitly, the same logic applies. Unless some other rule or Limitation would dictate a different outcome, trying to escape an Entangle by activating a Power generally wouldn't end the character's Phase. If the use of the Power requires movement, as with Teleportation, then that takes at least a Half Phase (for a Half Move). But escaping does not require movement per se; for instance, a character might Desolidify, have the Entangle fall through him, and thus get out without having to move.
