Mike W
Couldn't find a good place to post this so I created one. It's a percentage chart of rolling each number 3-17(or less) on 3d6. I've found it useful as both a player and a GM and thought I'd pass it on. 3 - 0.46% 4 - 1.85% 5 - 4.63% 6- 9.26% 7- 16.20% 8- 25.93% 9- 37.50% 10- 50.00% 11- 62.50% 12- 74.07% 13- 83.80% 14- 90.74% 15- 95.37% 16- 98.15% 17- 99.54% A few things immediately stand out. First, having a familiarity gives you about a 1/4 chance of making the roll. Also, it is easy to see why 12- is considered professional level. After all, you're 74% - about 3 success in 4 tries, before modifiers for routine matters push you into the 90+ percent range. Also, anything over about 14- is, for the most part, just buying against penalties since you already will make 10 rolls out of 11.
Trebuchet
I use a similar chart, though it appears we rounded somewhat differently. It's still very handy to know. Roll/Success % (Percentage chance to roll number or less on 3d6) 3- 0.5 % Note: A natural roll of "3" is always a hit/success 4- 1.9 5- 4.6 6- 9.3 7- 16.2 8- 25.9 9- 37.5 10- 50.0 11- 62.5 12- 74.1 13- 83.8 14- 90.7 15- 95.4 16- 98.1 17- 99.5 18- 100.0 Note: A natural roll of "18" is always a miss/failure
