Usable on others question

SullenSandman

Question

I want to purchase a force field to protect other people (innocent bystanders and team mates mainly). I am use to the 4th edition rules and am now becoming familiar with the 5th edition rules. I envision this to be bought as the following:

12/12 force field, Usable as an attack (+1), Ranged (+1/2) (60 active points)

I chose "Usable as an attack" because it would give me more freedom to protect people without their consent. Besides they might even be unconscious at the time they need additional defenses.

I understand that "Usable as an attack" could be very deadly and powerful when attached to certain powers, as you mentioned in 5th edition rules.

Question 1: Being that this is strictly a defensive power and has no potential to harm anyone, do you think it should have the full (+1) for Usable as an attack? Do you think it would be fair to call it a (+3/4) in this situation?

Question 2: Assume I have purchased this power. Some evil super villain is holding a glass cylinder of super deadly nerve agent in his hand and is threading to break it, killing everyone in the room. Let’s assume that the cylinder does not have a cork stopper, hinged lid, or screw off top. The rules under usable as an attack states you can use the power on an inanimate object of human mass or less. Being a tiny glass cylinder it would clearly be less than human mass. Assuming that I could successfully hit this small target with this power, it should add 12/12 to the object’s defenses. The result being, it would be more difficult to break open. Would this be correct? Let’s take it a step further. Assume a team mate generated a force wall of human mass or less. Could I use this power to add to the force wall’s defenses?
