Speed Change

Hawksmoor

Question

My question is a little different.

Example: Mighty Man has a Instant Change power that converts him from his 16 year old self to his full adult superpowered form. All of his powers and enhanced Characteristics are purchased OIHID.

The problem is Mighty Man's normal ID as Timmy Turner has a SPEED of 3 and Mighty Man has Speed of 7. On Phase 12 (Start of Combat) Timmy calls out the name of the Babe (His favorite B-Ball Player) and transforms into his Superhero form.

When does Mighty Man get to go again? Phase 2 as per his HERO Speed or Phase 4 as per his Timmy Turner Speed?

Thanks Steve.

Re: Speed Change

There are several issues at work here.

First, it should be noted that the standard rules for changing SPD rules refer only to lowering one’s SPD, but despite that should be applied to SPD changes generally.

Assuming you’re using the standard rule, the character would have to wait until the Post-Segment 12 period to change his SPD. Since Mighty Man changed SPD in Segment 12, that occurs immediately after his change, and he starts the next Turn with SPD 7. That would give him his first Phase in Segment 2.

If you were using the optional rules, Mighty Man wouldn’t get a Phase until the next Segment which is a Phase for both SPDs. That would be Segment 4. So, Mighty Man can’t act until Segment 4, though he could Abort prior to that if he needed to. Of course, since these are optional rules, many GMs aren't going to use them, or might ignore them in favor of the standard rule (since that's more favorable to the character in this situation).
