Linked versus Compound

Citizen Keen

Question

Steve-

Searched the Boards, the Book, and Acrobat Searched the FAQ, so hope you haven't already answered this...

What's the difference between a Compound Power (like EB 5d6, EB +3d6 No Range, as listed in the FAQ) and an EB 5d6 with a Linked EB +3d6 No Range? It seems cheaper to get the Linked Advantage...

Just curious.

Re: Linked versus Compound

Well, there's the fact that the first one is generally legal, and the second one generally isn't. Unless the GM specially permits it, characters typically aren't allowed to Link the same Power to itself in the way you describe. Otherwise, what's to stop them from buying, for example, an EB 12d6 as twelve separate 1d6s, each Linked to one another? Better to err on the side of caution and forbid such things, leaving it up to the wise and benevolent GM to recognize situations requiring an exception. :hex:
