Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front

Chiralman: My list isn't of books that I need to get; these are books that I've

already got. As far as Keith Curtis's site goes, I have taken a look at his "The

Savage Earth" webpage on a couple of occasions, especially the section on

anthropomorphs.

Bozimus: I don't think that it was you I had in mind when I mentioned the bit

about someone on the boards having their own PA HERO setting almost ready

to go; I seem to remember that the poster's username started with 'T' (it

might have been Toadmaster, but I'm not 100% sure).

Peregrine: As it happens, I do have the Black Ops supplement, but I

had decided against including it on the list due largely to the alien-/monster-

fighter focus of the book. I may give it another look, though, if for no

other reason than to see if any of the gear in the book could be used in a

PA setting.

I can't believe that I forgot this...

Of all the game supplements that I used to make up my research list, I can't

believe that I forgot to include this one:

GURPS Y2K.

It's practically required reading for a PA campaign of any kind, and I forgot to

put it on the list. Needless to say, that error has now been rectified, and Y2K

is now on the list.

Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front

I just flipped through Gadgets and Gear, I must have missed the power armor, guess I'll give it a better second look.

I've been working on a PA source book for HERO but I'm a very long way from from having anything remotely considered done.

As far as research books, you might want to give Aftermath a look, the system is dated and wasn't all that great to start with but it is probably one of the best sources of PA resource material, it has a section on setting up campaigns ranging from "The Bomb" to Alien invasion and everything in between, and also covers the it just happened to the 100 years + campaign. Also lots of good stuff for building a ruined world. I have seen a recently reprinted version so it should be fairly easy to find or at least order.

Another useful book is BTRC's CORPS Down in flames, it has 13 end of the worl scenarios plus lots of handy stuff like maps of the earth in a new ice age, with all the ice melted and even most of the worlds water gone.

Finally Tri Tac had Rogue 417 which I've always liked as a background for a PA game, it had everything, intelligent squirrels, zombies, bands of roving biker gangs etc. Plus lots of tables for building encounters.

I have never looked at Gurps Y2K. Why is it essential for PA games?

Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front

Bozimus: Y2K was a "what if" sort of book that was put out by SJG for

GURPS back around 2000-2001, back when there were all the worries about

what would happen when the computer clocks all over the world made the

switch from 2000 to 2001 (because computer programmers had apparently

forgotten to take the time change into account when they originally created

their programs); worries like every computer system in the world crashing at

at the same time, thereby causing everything relying on said computers to

cease functioning at once. It also covered several different "end of the world"

scenarios (astronomical, biblical, natural, as well as one set in a superhero

world -- the IST world, in fact). There was also a discussion on what sort of

people would come in most handy in a survival community, as well as what

sort of stuff you would need to survive if you suddenly found yourself having

to abandon your home due to an imminent apocalypse.

Tivaadkh 1: I suspect that, since they refer to it as the 4th Edition, that there's

probably been some sort of revision to the rules somewhere. Since the pre-

release flyer mentions a revised timeline, it probably means that the start date

for Big Mistake No. #3 has also been moved a little further into the future

(the starting year for WWIII was 1985 in the 3rd Ed.).

BTW, it turns out that there was yet another book that should have been on

my list: GURPS Blood Types (I forgot about there being things like vamp-

ires in the Morrow Project setting).

Thanks Tom! I had a hard time understanding the relevance until now...

Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front

I have seen the ad for the 4th edition of Morrow Project; but I am puzzled. Is it a reprint, a revision, a new system, new art.. new material/background as to what led to the war....?

Just wondering, thanks!

It is supposed to be a revision of the rules and will include an updated background. I'm on a Morrow Project discussion site and last year the new owner was asking for input. From the discussion I would expect the rules will integrate Chaosiums basic roleplaying system into the rules more (the old version just had a few pages tacking in a basic version of the BRP) BRP is the system behind Call of Cthulhu and Runequest for those not familiar with it. I know Kevin Dockery (the original author) offered material that was cut from the original version by Timeline (the original publisher) as well as his input of where he would like to see the game go, I don't know if his offer was followed up. There was also some talk of looking at d20, GURPS and HERO as alternate systems but I wouldn't expect anything more than possibly some conversion notes if that, it was mostly wishful thinking from forum members but you never know.

Hopefully Abacus (the new publisher) has done a good job of updating the game, the owner seems to have a real interest in the game and has reprinted a few of the old modules and printed at least 1 new one.

Wow. That really sounds promising. Thanks for the input. Do you by chance have the forums' address handy? Sounds like a site I would be interested in joining.

Some conversion notes would be neat (always looking for those); but the fact that a group of people is keeping this great game alive just shows the power of fans to keep a good thing going.

Thanks.

Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front

It is an email list but here is the support page

http://www.geocities.com/~bruce_morrow/listserver/mplist.htm

There are a number of TMP web pages out there, the Supply Bunker is one of the best (I didn't look to see if it was already listed)

http://www.thesupplybunker.net/morrow.htm

Where you can get MP stuff

http://www.timelineltd.com/

apparantly MP is back under the timeline name, it was connected to Abacus Dimension for awhile.

Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front

Here's an update with regards to TMP 4th Ed.:

Because of production problems that came up recently, TMP 4th Ed. might not

be coming out till November at least. Oh, well...

One can only hope that, if there any bugs that need to be ironed out of the

new edition, they'll be gone by the time it does come out.
