NR, AE Selective and arc of sight

John T

Question

Been mulling this one over for a bit, and wasn't able to find anything in 5E (don't have ER... yet) or the FAQs.

For a No Range, AE Radius, Selective attack, can the attacker only fire at targets within his normal arc of sight (whatever that might be), and thus only (normally) his front 180-degree arc?

Thanks!

Nope — under the rules, he can target anyone within the defined Area. The GM could impose “lack of Targeting Sense” penalties for targets he can’t see (or otherwise perceive with a Targeting Sense) if he felt that were appropriate, but the character’s not forbidden to attack targets behind him any more than a character with a gun is forbidden to shoot people behind him.
