Doppler
This is my Buck Rogers-Meets-Hawkman character. Yet to have a chance to play him, but he seems like fun. Criticism welcome. Captain Starlight Background: Peter Starr, a member of the Science Corps, was a dashing alien who cam to Earth some 30 years ago to track down some interstellar villains. Unfortunately, his spaceship crashed somewhere in the Midwest and he was stranded here. Luckily though, he was well-versed in human culture by his superiors before undertaking this mission, and was easily able to get a job at the local Midwest University as an astronomer while he rebuilt his damaged craft. In time, he took a wife, who died in childbirth. The child was sickly (possibly from the co-mingling of DNA between species), and would have died, had Dr. Starr built a fantastic device that "drew the very ultrascopic rays from the stars" and infused them into the infant. Andy, as the child was called grew to adulthood, finding it easy to excel in science due to his superior alien intellect and nightly lessons from his learned father. He was a strong boy too, although still very sickly, as he remains to this day. As the years passed, the elder Starr taught the young man about Keldor, their homeworld; and the Science Corps. Andy decided he, too, wished to be considered for membership into the elite space patrol organization, and Peter taught him everything he needed to know. Peter and Andy even wove together a new kind of fabric to make Andy's Science Corps outfit out of! (Incidentally, Andy lives of of the stipend provided to him by patenting this new fabric, called Gammacloth-3). Father and son worked shoulder-to-shoulder, rebuilding the advanced alien spacecraft bit by bit in the old barn near the main telescope. On the eve of the elder Starr's test flight, Andy was in town getting some souveniers to show the people of Keldor. A giant explosion rocked the observatory! Andy dashed behind a building, donned his Science Corps outfit, and flew to investigate. Scant moments before he arrived, the spacecraft took off! In the old barn, his father laid dying, obviously the result of a nefarious attack. Peter told his son, "It-it was Gorlo, one of the criminals I tracked to Earth many years ago. He must have been tracking our progress, waiting for his chance to strike. You are now Captain Starlight. You must prove yourself to be a worthy hero! Go get that man, and put him under arrest- for vandalism and grand theft spaceship!" Andy easily overtook the spacecraft, opened the hatch, and flew inside. He grabbed Gorlo (a hideous beast- it's hard to say how he survived unnoticed for 30 years) in one powerful hand, and ripped the dashboard (!) out with the other, tossing it to the Earth below. He said, "If you want Father's spacecraft so badly, you can have it!" With this, he flew off. The rocket ship careened into space, doubtless killing its only passenger, who screamed all the way to his doom. Description: In his secret identity, Andy Starr is a tall, slender man with bookish glasses, who smokes a pipe (to make him look more professorial). He wears checked shirts, and blazers with patches on the elbows. His shoes usually show signs of wear. As Captain Starlight, his costume is red, white, and blue. His chest and cape are blue, emblazoned with white stars. His trunks and boots are red, and his boots also have three stars running down the outsides vertically. His face is covered with a 3/4 cowl mask of blue. Because of his outfit, he is often called "The Star-Spangled Avenger" even though the stars signify those in the sky rather than those on the flag. Southern Cross
Re: Character for Review: Cpt Starlight Captain Starlight has 330 points of disadvantages, but is built on 329 points. Also,he's built on less points than a Standard Superhero, though his liberal use of focii helps compensate.
MagicPegasus
Re: Character for Review: Cpt Starlight For a climbing device I use Clinging with lots of limitations. Regular Climing skill only gives 3" movement. Clinging (can't use STR to stick to surface, only verticle up or down movement, no -1d6 kb, max of 30" total movement because of line length, max of 10" movement per phase, must have the Climbing skill, -1 1/2). Each item being a 1/4 limitation. He doiesn't have to make a skill roll for each phase he moves, unless he is moving in a unussual manor or something bad is hapening to him. This device is a Powered Grappling Line that pulls the character up to the top of a building. He can be climbing along as he's moving or just let it hoist him up.
