This is one of those creatures, where the author has left a lot of loose ends. Your writeup is pretty much spot on, but I thought Howard also implied a strong connection to the vampire legend. As such, an enterprising GM could easily tack on a variety of additional abilities to surprise PCs.

 

Also, when I thought of statting them out, I was considering making them much, much tougher, like using Desolidification to represent their nigh-supernatural invulnerability. Then, the special ability of Solomon Kane's weapon would have been simply Affects Desolid.

I was debating (and still am) giving the Akaana 6 rPD and saying the native weapons (specially the bows) had Reduced Penetration. Thus at close range the arrows would work, further out, no dice. Spears might work, but they don't have the range. Kane's guns, of course, work just fine.
