PS: Actor, KS: Acting, and the skill Acting

Harry Canyon

Question

Hi there,

Professional skills represent the ability to do some "thing".

So... why would a character buy PS: Actor if they bought Acting? Or vice versa. Would you please give some examples when a PS: Actor skill roll would be used rather than an Acting skill roll? (A player new to the Hero System brought this up and I couldn't think of a good answer. )

Thanks for your help!

Harry

Acting is how to act.

PS: Actor is about how to be a professional actor. It represents the ability to present yourself to producers, negotiate and manage contracts, and so forth and so on. It's the "business of acting" PS, rather than the "how to act" PS.

PS: Singing (how to sing) and PS: Singer (the business of being a professional singer) work the same way.
