Falling and Gliding

greymankle

Question

How much gliding does a charcater need to prevent falling damage?

for example: an unconcious victim gets thrown off the Sears tower. Our hero jumps after the victim. Falling is faster then gliding, so he bee-lines it for the victim. Half way through the fall, he catches the victim and activates his glider cape. Is he then effectively safe? What if he activates the glider cape only 20 feet from the ground?

Thanks,

Re: Falling and Gliding

There aren’t any “minimum distance” rules for Flight or Gliding, short of the standard rules for accelerating and decelerating. In the situation you describe, once the character with Gliding starts Gliding, he can Glide normally. There’s no requirement that he use a certain minimum of movement to prevent himself or someone else from suffering falling damage. However, depending on what he’s Grabbing, the Encumbrance rules may make him Glide more slowly... or prevent him from being able to Glide at all.
