I've looked over the DCV modifiers on 5e p245, both FAQs and this forum, but couldn't find anything on this.
Our group has two characters who can generate Darkness fields; one has the standard at-range version, while the other generates a no-range/PI field around himself. What modifiers (if any) affect an attacker who is outside a Darkness field when trying to attack someone who's in one?
I have the feeling that, in the latter case, the character should buy levels of DCV that only work while shrouded in his own Darkness (not getting nothing for nothing, as it were), but I wasn't sure about the former.
