Mikala's Coin Sorter

Super Squirrel

Question

I'm working on a spell right now that is based on an Enhanced Sense and I have a question regarding the nature of Discriminatory and Analyze.

Mikala's Coin Sorter, when cast, makes all coins of identical composition to the coin they hold in their hand to glow with feint light.

Discriminatory and Analyze are prefaced in Fifth Revised as "to percieve a greater range of information". The caster is not, in this case, percieving the information but only finding coins of identical composition. That said, the spell does distinguish between imperfect compositions. So, if the caster holds a 94% steel, 1.5% Ni, 4.5% Cu coin and there is a 92% steel, 3.5% Ni, 4.5% Cu coin, it will not glow. So that caster does not get the discrim/analyze information but is looking finer details of an object.

Would this be a case of a where either Discriminatory or Analyze is appropriate or is it encompessed under the type of detect it is?

Re: Mikala's Coin Sorter

If the spell grants knowledge of the coin's exact composition, then Discriminatory and/or Analyze are required. If not -- if it just tells the caster which coins are identical to the one he's holding -- it's probably OK to define the Detect as Detect Coins Of Exact Same Composition. Thus, the caster knows they're all of the same composition, but doesn't know what that composition is.
