END Calculations for Strikes, etc.

Thia Halmades

Question

If someone purchases an Offensive Strike, is the END charged to use it simply the Active Cost/10 of the total ability of the Strike? In a Fantasy HERO campaign, would it make sense to waive that rather than nit pick and disrupt the flow of the game? And, in another example:

Kalyn is a great-sword wielding Paladin. He has a STR 17 (minima for the blade, so no bonus), and is trained in Imperial Heavy Blade Combat (Martial Art). He has an offensive strike for his greatsword, and, during the fight, opts to go all-out and throw a Haymaker.

1. A Haymaker adds '4d6' - is that 4d6 of the applicable dice, up to the doubling rule, or in the event of Killing Damage, is it 1d6+1?

2. How do I calculate the END consumed for the special attack?

Thanks!

Re: END Calculations for Strikes, etc.

1. A Haymaker adds +4 Damage Classes, not +4d6, as described on 5ER 389. Using Haymaker to add damage to attacks is discussed on 5ER 406-07, and is subject to the standard rules regarding doubling of DCs and such unless a specific rule indicates otherwise.

2. See 5ER 425, upper left, re: the END cost of Combat Maneuvers and Martial Maneuvers. In this case, assuming he uses STR 17 (3 END in a Heroic genre) and Offensive Strike (a Martial Maneuver), the character's using 3 END to make the attack. If he uses Haymaker (a Combat Maneuver), it costs 4 END.

Note that you are mis-applying one rule -- a character can't add both an Offensive Strike and a Haymaker to the same attack. They're both Combat/Martial Maneuvers, so he's got to choose one or the other (5ER 389 uses these two as an example of this, in fact). The rules indicate specifically when two or more Combat/Martial Maneuvers can be used at once.
