Guest Celt
'Brazilian Stonehenge' discovered Tropical Stonehenge may have been found Did ancient Amazonians build a 'Stonehenge'? Long story wiki-short "In May 2006, archeologists announced they had found a pre-colonial astronomical observatory possibly 500 to 2,000 years old near Calçoene, which is in the Amazon River basin near French Guiana. Archaeologist Mariana Petry Cabral of the Amapa Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (IEPA) said that the observatory is a circle built of 127 blocks of granite, each 3 meters (10 feet) high." So with it what you will.
FenrisUlf
Re: Stonehenge in South America Now this sounds pretty amazing. Those legends of lost Amazonian cities may well be true after all!
Cancer
Re: Stonehenge in South America The wierd thing about this is that the described site is really really close to the equator. Though one of those news stories mentions "the winter solstice" that designation is very nearly meaningless for that site. At the equator, the variation in the length of the day is very nearly zero (it's not exactly zero, because of effects of the nonzero eccentricity of the Earth's orbit, but the effects of the change of the solar declination -- which is the cause of the seasonal day length changes we're used to -- are zero). And the seasons don't really have much meaning there. An astronomical alignment of stones is still very plausible, but the linkage between those astronomical phenomena and seasons is VERY different from what we're used to thinking about in the northern temperate latitudes. It was built before the Lemurians caused the Polar Shift to destroy Atlantis.
Cancer
Re: Stonehenge in South America It was built before the Lemurians caused the Polar Shift to destroy Atlantis. Heck, as close as this is to the equator, it could be the ruins of the Lemurians' Polar Shift initiation ritual circle!

oryanfactor
Re: Stonehenge in South America I think I ran into an article that scientists beleive they may have found Pyramids in the Balkans as well. However, since my posts tonight feel like I'm channeling the Art Bell show, I'll let any interested parties to the legwork to find out more. oryan
