In Hero System, technically a character can take a full move, a second character can grab the baton (or any object) from him and make a full move, a third character could do the same thing, and so on. So technically in a single phase, an object could move any distance provided you have enough runners. If it takes a half phase to grab the baton, then each runner could move a half phase and you would need twice as many runners.
Is there anything stopping a baton from moving from NY to Boston in a second if you had a few thousand runners, besides common sense?
