Cost of Followers

I tried looking through the FAQ and couldn't find this.

 

When calculating the cost for a character's followers, do the points they pay for the followers affect the cost. For instance, if Mad Mike(175 points) wants to put another 50 points into followers (making him cost 225 points total), when calculating the cost of his followers, does Mad Mike count as 175 point character or a 225 point character?
