He was bemused by one of the time-lines in the back of the book. One was so large that the line for "Planets formed" was adjacent to "End Of Man." Clarke also turned me on to J. D. Bernal's The World, the Flesh & the Devil. Clarke noted that many of the ideas in that essay had still not be utilized by his fellow SF authors. He also noted that any requests from his fellow authors to borrow his copy would be flatly refused.
