Still Another Bat-ty Idea

Corven Ren's thread, "My Champions Universe Timeline", inspired my latest conception of Batman. This is set in the Champions Universe, not the DC Comics Universe.

Batman is Thomas Wayne, the son of Bruce Wayne (the first Batman) and Selina Kyle Wayne (the first Catwoman), both now deceased.

Like his father, he has a Batgirl. She's his wife, Barbara. Her parents are Police Commissioner Richard Grayson (the first Robin) and his wife, Barbara (the first Batgirl), who now heads the GCPD's Information Technology unit.

As Batman, Thomas is easier to get along with then his father. He has no trouble working with the authorities, but prefers to keep up the "creature of the night" style his father did. Barbara's the same way.

Unknown to Alfred, he fathered a child by one of his female SAS colleagues. Her daughter, Marie, now tends Wayne Manor, the Waynes, and the Batcave.

Batman and Batgirl have no problem with magic. In fact, a mystical gateway connects the Batcave to the basement of a local mage's fastness. Said fastness serves as quarters for their support/liaison team.

Three teams call the Batcave home. Team one is Batman and Batgirl. Team two are the PCs. Like Batman and Batgirl, they have their own cases. Team three, the She-Bats, are the black-clad support/liaison team that keeps the Batcave running smoothly. All carry communicators and handguns loaded with sleep darts.

Re: Still Another Bat-ty Idea

The She-Bats consist of electronics and vehicle engineer Keiko Yamamoto, computer expert Krissy Valentine (both of which have a masters degree), a doctor, a nurse, Zarah Maxwell, a liaison from an unnamed intelligence agency, and liaisons from the Department of Homeland Security, the DOSPA, the FBI, and PRIMUS.

The DOSPA liaison is the government's official liaison and the only one who can give orders to the team. The others are there to facilitate communications with their agencies.

Krissy came up with the name "She-Bats" because they hang around the cave like bats and suggested the team's cat burglar look. Keiko and Zarah quickly accepted her suggestions.

Re: Still Another Bat-ty Idea

In this post, I'll touch on abilities and vehicles.

The are two Batmobiles. Batman's is the Tumbler from Batman Begins. Batgirl's Batmobile (sometimes known as the Batgirlmobile) is a tricked out Lamborghini Murcielago.

Thomas's skills are identical to his father's and he wears his father's old costume.

Batgirl wears an armored version of her mother's costume, minus the high-heels on her boots. Her martial arts form is ninjitsu (Keiko's mother, Kimiko, was her teacher) and she uses Bat-shuriken, just like her mother did, instead of razor batarangs.

Besides being a computer whiz, Krissy is a highly skilled swimmer (she was on her high school and college swim teams) and former girl scout.

Like Batgirl, Keiko was trained by her mother in ninjitsu. However, unlike Batgirl, she has no interest in fighting crime in the street. She prefers to be the team's engineer and Batgirl's usual sparring partner.

Before joining the unnamed intelligence agency, Zarah, an African-American woman, was a highly successful cat burglar. She likes to workout with Keiko and Barbara and sometimes spars with them.

Re: Still Another Bat-ty Idea

The teams have three vehicles for surveillance. One is a regular van that anyone can drive and carries light surveillance gear. (This is the same kind of van Alfred drove in the comics.)

A second is panel truck with state of the art surveilance equipment. Keiko and Zarah operate it. Also, it serves as home base for the third vehicle, a radio-control model Bell 222B helicopter with video equipment that transmits in the 300 gigahertz band.

Commissioner Grayson knows about the vehicles and told his officers to consider them as police vehicles.

A quick note. Although designed for the CU, this would fit into my Avengers campaign. Batman would not be part of the Avengers, but he'd probably ask for their help when necessary.

Re: Still Another Bat-ty Idea

Gotham City celebrates Groundhog Day and has its own groundhog, Gotham Gus. He resides at the Gotham Zoo and his official handler is Ruth Grey Wolf, D.V.M., the zoo's chief veterinarian.

Ruth is one of a handful of wild animal vets that can mentally communicate with animals. Another is Rumiko Nakamura, who is employed by the Ross Brothers Circus.

Batman and Batgirl have their own rogues gallery. Joker is a court jester type with a mean streak. Catwoman is a cat burglar with razor-sharp claws and feline abilities. Riddler is a mobster with a penchent for riddles.
