The Justice Brigade

The campaign is set in a version of the CU.

Secretary of Education James Collingsworth became President after the Capitol Building was destroyed at the start of Dubya's 2006 State of the Union Address. In September of 2006, he nominated Senator David Martin of Pennsylvania as Vice President. The nomination was quickly confirmed.

Three dayys after he was sworn in, President Collingsworth spent an hour telling the world about Stargate Command, their battles against the Goa'uld system lords, and their allies the Tok'ra and the Asgard. He then informed them that Anubus, a renagade system lord, had attacked Washington, D.C. from space. Fortunately, his ship was destroyed by allied ships.

Vice President Martin's wife, Ellen, is an eye surgeon whose office is near the George Washington University Hospital. President Collingsworth's wife, Kathryn, is her office nurse. The President's daughter, Holly, handles the big cats at the Ross Brothers Circus. The Vice President's daughter, Ronna, lives with her maternal grandparents and attends Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Collingsworths are Jewish. The Martins are African-American. Ronna is a BtVS-style vampire slayer with her own Scooby Gang. The PCs are the Justice Brigade and a young heroine known as Solara fights crime in Squirrel Hill, the neighborhood Taylor Allderdice is in.

Re: The Justice Brigade

The Elizabeth Carter Foundation is the team's financial backer. It was founded by Daniel Carter, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Carter International, a multi-national coorporation based in the Pittsburgh area and has no control over the team.

Knight is an expert with the sword and shield. A tall blonde, she wears golden scale mail under a black tabard and hooded cape. Both the tabard and shield have the insignia of the D&D city of Waterdeep on them. Her usual method of transportation is Star, her palomino pegasus that lives in its own pocket reality.

Warder, wealthy socialite Lisa Ward, is the team's mage and the owner of the mansion the team calls home. She is hardly without her familiar, Midnight, a black cat.

Black Scorpion is a ninja and the team reservist. Her usual method of transportation is the Scorpionmobile, a tricked out black Corvette.

None of these women lead the team. They're just there to fill out the team roster.

Marie Clark is the housekeeper and, when needed, Lisa's personal maid.

Kimiko Yamashiro is the team's technical manager and Black Scorpion's civilian identity. She prefers working on equipment to fighting crime, but, occasionally, can be talked into coming on a mission.

Jean Masters is the team's receptionist/executive assistant. A middle-aged woman, she doesn't panic easily.

Susan Grey, R.N., is the team's nurse. A former trauma nurse, she is capable of dealing with all kinds of injuries.

The government liaisons are next. I just have to find my notes.

Here are the federal liaisons.

Harry Scofield, C.P.A., represents the DOSPA and is the official government liaison. The others are just representatives. He's a klutz, wears glasses, and is a trained accountant.

John Masters, Esq., is the Department of Homeland Security liaison. He played ice hockey in high school and college and still plays it in an amateur league, was on the debate team in high school and college, was in the NROTC, and is a commissioned reservist in JAG.

Zarah Maxwell is the Security Intelligence Agency liaison. An African-American woman, she became an orphan at age 7 when her parents were killed by a drunk driver. She did black bag jobs for her agency until Senator Robert Kinsey complained to the public that she was causing trouble with a highly-respected government agency. That agency, the NID, was shut down after most of its operatives were either arrested for treason or shot while trying to shoot federal marshals. Kinsey was arrested for treason and attacking the President of the United States.

Re: The Justice Brigade

This probably isn't important to the campaign, but with all the talk about a new hockey arena, I thought I'd throw it out.

Mario sold the Pens in 2005 to a businessman who was only interested in the team as an investment. He also signed a three-year lease extension on the Mellon Arena.

The new owner also decided that one announcer would do the play-by-play for radio, television, and, for home games, the arena PA. The networks would provide only the color commentators. He also decided that, since he didn't like the man's expressions, the play-by-play guy wouldn't be Mike Lange.

His reign as the Penguin's owner lasted one year. In finincial trouble, he sold the team to Carter International, who paid with a certified check for the entire amount. Mr. Carter announced that the team would stay in Pittsburgh for two years, then move to a new arena the company was building and would own, on land it already owned.

When asked where the new arena would be built, Mr. Carter replied, "Less than 30 miles from the current arena. To be exact, it'll be in Peters Township, which is in Washington County."

Re: The Justice Brigade

Unlike most campaigns, the players will be told to build their characters on 200 points plus as many in disadvantages and experience as they need to make a good character. (Source for the idea is Theron Bretz's article in Digital Hero #3.)

They will also be able to take up to five quirks, a quirk is a 1 point disadvantage, and they can use knacks, or 1 point advantages. (Quirks are originally from GURPS and now used by some GMs. Source for knacks is Dave Mattingly's article in Digital Hero #23.)

Although the game will be in Pittsburgh (or Pixburgh as former KDKA radio morning man John Cygna calls it), I'd like to make a few comments about Millennium City. It's quite good, but I'm not impressed by Dr. Silverback, the iconic characters, the gate system and the beltway and I think the whole vehicle control chip idea is completely silly.
