"Stepping Up" an effect

Thia Halmades

Question

Hail to the scooper of ice cream;

Or.

"Hi, Steve."

So for one of my random conversion projects by which I seem to learn all kinds of new rules, I've stumbled on something I'm not quite sure how to build. The SFX is 'poison,' one that does more damage every phase. The premise is simple:

You take 1d6 Drain STUN this phase.

You take 2d6 the next.

You take 3d6 after that.

Up to Xd6/phase when it maxes out. Is this a textbook example of gradual effect/uncontrolled (i.e., you are now poisoned, suffer until you fall over)? Or is there another mechanic to achieve this result?

Re: "Stepping Up" an effect

Well, I don't generally answer "how to" questions, but offhand I can think of several suggestions.

First, build it using Gradual Effect, but work with the GM to change the way the Gradual damage accumulates over time. That might entail altering the value of the Limitation.

Second, buy an Uncontrolled attack with lots of dice and Limit it so that the damage accumulates gradually as you describe.

Third, check out my HEROglyphs column for Digital Hero #47, where as luck would have it I've written about basically this sort of thing. :hex:
