The staff and his all-purpose dagger are otherwise quite ordinary tools that he would use much more often if his teammates would let him.

Background/History : Vitus, lone survivor of a universe overwritten by this one. Ambitious, embittered, and lots of other things beginning with 'M'.

 

Vitus was born into a wealthy clan of his world's hyena-derived metalsmiths, but come puberty was packed off to the Conjurers college so his ambition and ( weak ) magical talent could be channelled into something useful. Persevering more thru bloody-mindedness than actual skill, strange twists of fate shaped Vitus into quite a skilled wizard, AND prophet to a reborn god - and cast him far across the multiverse from his home, to his considerable dismay.

 

Worse, after making his way back towards what should have been his homeworld, Vitus found himself in the summoning circle of a DEMON coven. They'd been trying to conjure up a monstrous, bloodthirsty denizen of Hell. Some would say they succeeded, altho Vitus insists he only ever worked there as bar staff.

 

Vitus does not like Earth. For one thing it's so healthy and resource-rich it can experiment with idiotic ideas like democracy. Some of the technology - plate glass, steel, etc, is interesting, but otherwise Earth is totally inferior compared to his slave-keeping, bronze-age culture back home. A home apparently erased in favour of this reality. Worse, Earth is yet another reality where humans predominate, and no sign of his own species anywhere - neither civilised (like himself ) nor otherwise.

 

None of this has done his temper, already foul, any good.

 

But until he finds some way to recreate his homeworld ( even if he can't recreate his species ), he's stuck here.

Powers : Vitus prefers conjuration-style spells, or manipulations of reality ( ie Slow, DRAIN 7d6 SPD, recovery 5pts/min, non-cumulative ), to mere evocations or glamours. That said, some ( such as the 10d6 Elephant Prod, Metal's Doom - 4d6 RKA vs Metal - and Wizard's Powers +60 PRE ) have their uses.

 

Aiding an ally's SPD or STR is also a handy technique, he finds.

 

Vitus will frequently customise his magics to match his cultural prejudices - Scorpions, and magically conjured bronze impalement ( Spear of Alla-Tandassi-Anbar - 4d6 RKA, Armour Piercing) are favourites. He'd prefer to use his most lethal spells on the target of the day, but people keep complaining. Especially when he tries to cut their throats whilst he has them unconscious. Local ethics consider it immoral. Vitus thinks it's simply practical.

 

Personality/Motivation: Not evil. Not good, either. Arrogant, self-interested, monomaniacal, as explosive as fulminate of mercury, willing to do anything and sacrifice anyone (including himself) to achieve his overwhelming desire of his homeworld reborn. Until then, deference, respect, and money are acceptable.

 

Generally not a keeper of grudges however, and remains civil with fellow magic-users, especially (under most circumstances).

 

Appearance: 7ft tall, scarred, hyena-derived humanoid. Usually wearing a toga-like cloak of office, and carrying his staff and belt of equipment pouches.

Campaign Uses : Anti-hero, Villain, annoyed alien visitor captured by government, lots of possibilities.

So, if Vitus ever discovers that The Specter has had sexual intercourse with his concubine, Three, he need only hide under a rock for a week or two?;)

I suppose, that after a week for Vitus to cool down, The Spectre *might* get away with a knee to the groin, or two.
