Block vs. Sweep

Nolgroth

Question

I checked 5er, I checked the FAQ and I did a search in this area. I can probably make a judgment call myself, but I wanted the "official" answer. (And here is hoping I just didn't miss it somewhere. :) )

When blocking a Sweep maneuver, is the target OCV the modified OCV from using Sweep. For example, Swordsman is Sweeping Defending Man. Swordsman's OCV is normally 8 (after CSLs) and he is attempting to hit three times, for a total of -4 to his OCV. Does Defending Man Block vs OCV 8 or OCV 4?

Thanks.

Re: Block vs. Sweep

The Block works against the attacker’s current OCV, which in your example is 4; otherwise the rules would specify “against the attacker’s base (unmodified) OCV.” However, note that the Blocking character is going to suffer some penalties himself, per bottom right of 5ER 385.
