Classes of Minds

Is the category Alien (or Animal for that matter) meant only to be used for minds that a human being can't interact or comprehend at all, so far example, Marvin the Android, Lassie and most alien races would count as human because their behavior and general thought process is comprehensible by humans?

Each GM can interpret them how he wishes, though I for one certainly wouldn't consider Marvin or Lassie as Human, but rather as Machine and Animal respectively. Nor would there be much point in having an Alien class of minds if most non-terrestrial species qualified as Human.
