The Mermaid, take 2

This is a lighthearted one and assumes that the character's in a major port city.

The SSRN Seaview, which is 600 feet long and the fourth sub to carry that name, is in the harbor loading supplies. They seem to be ignoring a nearby mermaid who could be the twin to Ariel from the film The Little Mermaid.

As you get closer, you hear her talking to some people and note that her voice has a Texas twang. When someone asks why the sub crew is ignoring her, she explains that the sub's crew often encounters mermaids and a few have even guided it through hazardous waters.

She adds that the film The Little Mermaid is based on the story, The Little Mermaid, written in 1836 by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen. It wasn't until 1872 when Andersen's work, which has been adopted a number of times, has been translated into English.

The mermaid is Beverly Connors, PhD, a marine biologist employed by the Nelson Institute of Marine Research and Seaview's resident scientist. The sub's crew is aware of the fact that she's a mermaid and she's the one that most often guides the sub.
