Jomster
Re: Cool 3D Starmap.. That's pretty good. Particularly like the way you can set it spinning at different angles and speeds easily with the mouse. The pop up info is cool too. Goes to show we're in a bit of a gap with a fair old distance from us to the nearest neighbouring star! Possibly a good job of course depending on how unfriendly the locals are over there! Nyrath
Re: Cool 3D Starmap.. Of course, I mentioned this link a few days ago http://www.herogames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1725055&postcount=56 The average separation between stars in our region of the galaxy is about three light years. But for campaign use, it is easier to use a "node" map. This is a map where each star is a box, and lines connect each star to its nearby neighbors. It is not as accurate as a 3D map, but it is generally close enough for government work. There are some node maps on my website: http://www.projectrho.com/smap12.html#winch But if you must use a 3D map in a game campaign, and have about forty bucks to spend I'd recommend you get a copy of AstroSynthesis http://www.nbos.com/products/astro/astro.htm You can spin the map in real time. But in addition, you can make a video of a path through the map, keep track of the solar systems, draw trade routes, keep secret notes on each planet that only the game master can see, generate an HTML file listing the stars for the players, and much much more. This program was designed with a game master in mind.
