Nyrath
http://news.discovery.com/space/mystery-object-behaves-both-like-a-comet-and-asteroid.html Something awfully curious is happening 250 million miles away in the asteroid belt. Astronomers think they may be witnessing a never-before-seen collision between two asteroids. The puzzle centers on a newly discovered object that superficially looks like a comet but lives among the asteroids.
Zeropoint
Re: Two asteroids colliding? Ah, they let an important bit of information slip there: "LIVES among the asteroids." Clearly, we are witnessing the mating of space whales. (note: physical resemblance to Earth sea life is not implied or even probable) Go space porn! (Perhaps extraterrestrials are playing a real version of the popular 1980's arcade game "Asteroids.") I like this explanation, too! Perhaps using sophisticated technology to re-enact primitive computer games is considered terribly amusing in their culture? Do they play as the arrowhead ship, or as the flying saucers? Drhoz
Re: Two asteroids colliding? eh? I'm sure I've seen a chapter in a Carl Sagan book - probably Comet - about a suspected impact out in the Kuiper belt. Noteworthy because the paper he was discussing actually used an exclamation mark.
