Full move dodge maneuver and Dive for Cover

If a character has the Full move dodge martial art maneuver can he about to it when being attacked by an area effect attack? I would say yes if he has a phase to abort. If the character just acted in the same segment he can`t. He would have to use the Dive For Cover maneuver which from my understanding is a zero phase action.

Am I correct?

If I understand your question correctly, yes, you've interpreted things correctly. Flying Dodge certainly counts as a "defensive action" and could thus be Aborted to. HSMA 245 has some discussion of this.
