Guest Confusinator
Hero Man has instant change to change him from Man on the Street to Hero Man in a flash of light. As Hero Man, he has an EC that includes Damage Reduction, Cost END to activate (making it a constant power) and OIHID. Hero Man wants his Damage Reduction to activate immediately upon change. So he decides to Link Damage Reduction to Instant Change. He can't use Damage Reduction before the Instant Change (OIHID), so he gets a reduced limitation value for Linked (-1/4). Is this correct? Seems like Hero Man is getting to save points for activating a power that only benefits him. I'm having a hard time seeing what the limitation here is. Talon
Technically this means that he can only use Damage Reduction on Phases in which he changes clothing. After he's changed, the Damage Reduction will shut off. That's the Limitation. I think just OIHID covers what you want -- he can activate the Damage Reduction as a 0 Phase action when/as he does Instant Change, so Linked isn't needed. Instant change in 5E is an instant power (it is now a specific build of Transform). If a character links a constant power to an instant power, the constant power only lasts for the phase in which the power is used. (5 E page 196 at the end of the write up for Linked) So the player would have to constantly re-use his Instant change to keep the Damage. Reduction up. I don’t think that is what the player is trying to accomplish. I also think the player is only using the cost End to activate lim to get the power into the EC, without actually having to deal with any real additional limitations on the power. I would invoke the “a limitation that doesn’t really limit the character isn’t a limitation ruleâ€. I would either make the cost End to activate the power a -0 lim in this case, take the power out of the EC, or not let him set up any way for the Damage Reduction to come on-line immediately when he achieves Hero ID. It is up to the individual GM on how they want to handle it. Side note, it is strictly a matter of GM call, but the instant change and flash of light thing, might not really be enough of a restriction to warrant the OIHID limitation either.
