Background/History: Known as the Countess of the Inferno, Ignigena is a demon princess of some power, who, like all residents of the infernal realms, desires more. However, unlike some of her fellow demons, Ignigena is more tempered in her wants and needs, and is willing to play a longer-viewed game then is normally attempted by many of her ilk. Thus, she is more likely to answer when called upon by mortal sorcerers, and has even been known to reply to an incorrect summons, figuring she can play such a situation to her advantage when the time is right.

Personality/Motivation: Although an embodiment of all-destructive fire, Ignigena is apt to be far more reserved and 'slow-burning' in person. As she tends to look on everyone and everything as simply more fuel for the fire (so to speak), she'll often be highly cooperative and helpful when initially called upon and will do her best to make herself seemingly indispensable as a source of knowledge and power to any mortal magician who has dared contact her (she's even known to take some into her confidence, instructing them in the art of pyromancy and the like). Able to quench her hellfire at will, Ignigena will even go so far as to offer her up physical charms if it will bring a potential underling further into her embrace (both metaphorically and literally). However, make no mistake, Ignigena only cares for herself. All of her advice, aid, and assistance has only one goal—to further her aims on the mortal plane. Those who summon her will eventually discover she is the master and they are mere servants at best, and slaves at worst (especially those who made errors while trying to contact her, but managed to call up Ignigena anyway). As with all demons, she desires souls (to both feed on and to barter with), but she also enjoys acquiring items of power, such as the ones many magicians accumulate through the source of their careers. And what better way to gain such artifacts then by the slow corruption (and eventual destruction) of one foolish enough to think they can call up and control the Countess of Conflagration?

Quote: “But of course, m’lord, I can teach you much of what you wish to know... at a price.”

Powers/Tactics: Although normally mid-mannered in her intercourse with mortals, Ignigena can be fearsome to behold when roused to battle. As befits her name, "Born of Fire", Ignigena likes to ignite as much of her surroundings as possible when engaging in combat. Thus, she tends to start with her Blast of All-Consuming Flame, often Spreading the attack in order to hit multiple targets and/or catch as much of the landscape on fire as possible. She will also use Wreathed in Hellfire to ensure blows struck with her fists and claws will then cause anything flammable nearby to ignite as well. Finally, her Command of Fire and Flame VPP will be used to augment her natural combat abilities. Examples include bright flashes of flame and sparks (Flash), clouds of dense smoke (Darkness), swords and spears of fire (HKA), arrows of fire (RKA) and so on.

Appearance: Standing anywhere from six to eight feet in height (depending on her mood), Ignigena possesses a nominally human form, albeit one with obvious demonic influences. Her body ranges in color from the dull red of low-burning coals, to the yellow-white of searing flames. Her hair is a wreath of fire with burning locks and strands falling down over the dull black flesh of her face, partially obscuring her bright yellow eyes, while from the top of her skull projects two immense curving horns. Ignigena's hands end in long and wickedly sharp claws, while her legs are sometimes encased in highly decorative (and baroquely-shaped) sections of plate armor. Apparently, this armor is only worn as a visual statement and seems a manifestation of her power, and not a form of additional protection.

Designer's Notes: At over 1,000 points, Ignigena is a very powerful demon princess (and I even down-graded her power level a bit!). I started with a Greater Demon character sheet from the Hero System Bestiary, then added in assorted powers as I saw fit. You can use her in your games as a name to be feared, without ever actually encountering her. The PCs could do battle with her minions and slaves for example, or race against another group to recover an artifact Ignigena desires before she gets her hands (and claws) on it. You could also use her in a Champions setting. Simply strip out most of her infernal powers and the like, and you now have a fire-controlling mutant or the like.

Re: Ignigena -- the Countess of Conflagration

Interesting Demon. What I like most is her personality, usually with Fire Creatures they are all about destruction through fire and like their element are unpredicatabe raging infernos. Ignigena though shows a different aspect of fire; patient, mathodical, suductive and just a dangerous, if not more so than her raging fellow demons

Also what sells it for me is the picture. As the saying goes "A Picture tells a 1000 words", I would find it hard to adequately descibe her or any being I present to my players, but a picture conveys so much more.

Re: Ignigena -- the Countess of Conflagration

Thanks. It was the image that sold me as well. I knew I needed to make something to go with that artwork.

Now, in regards to your comments, I will point out, that her combat tactics basically boil down to "burn all the things!"

Re: Ignigena -- the Countess of Conflagration

I feel the same way. When I see a picture like this it drives my Imagination wild, I just have to write something about them.

"Burn all the things" is a very good combat tactic but from my reading of her I felt that she was the kind of Demon who would patiently plan and execute her schemes gaining what she wants. However if Burning everything in a great conflagration accomplishes that all the better, it might be her first thought to solve a situation but she would not do it for the sake of it. This is very different to most other fire Demons I have seen which can be a little one dimensional.

I guess thats the great thing about Roleplaying, 2 people can see a being but convieve completely different concepts.

I also think she's a patient schemer. But when it comes to open face-to-face combat, setting everything on fire is her primary tactic. Because if it's come to face-to-face combat, then subtlety be damned.
